In a surprising turn of events, Super Junior’s Ryeowook has announced his upcoming wedding with Ari, a former member of the girl group Tahiti. The news was shared by Ryeowook himself on his Instagram account, catching fans and followers off guard.
Ryeowook, who has been a part of the music industry since his debut with Super Junior in 2005, expressed his feelings in a heartfelt letter to his fans, known as ELFs.
On March 29, Ryeowook took to his Instagram to make the announcement to fans. The translation to his announcement is written below.
Hello. This is Super Junior’s Ryeowook. I have news that I would like to personally share with my dear ELFs, my best friends, who always love and support me with all their hearts. I pen this letter hoping that my sincerity would reach you all.
We met in early winter, on November 6, 2005, when I was only 19 years old. Fast forward two decades, and I’m now 38 years old. Throughout the years, ELFs have been my rock, staying by my side no matter what. And after facing the ups and downs together, I believe we’ve become more inseparable than ever. And that’s why I’d like to share the news with you first—but at the same time, I feel very cautious about it.
As you all know, I have a significant other. And after all the time I spent with her, I’ve naturally developed a desire to settle down and form a family with her. This decision did not come overnight. I’ve thought about it for a long time, and after discussing it with my fellow teammates and the management, I’ve decided to get married this spring, in late May.
I am forever grateful to ELFs who have supported me through the years, even when I fumbled and wasn’t the most perfect version of myself. Also, I am sorry if this news surprised you out of the blue or caught you off guard in any way. That being said, for those who wish to see me perform on stage as part of Super Junior and to hear me sing, I promise you that I will not change. As Super Junior’s Ryeowook and as vocalist Ryeowook, I assure you that I will continue to try my best.
Finally, I would like to thank my fellow teammates and SM Entertainment for respecting my decision and supporting me with endless encouragement. Dear ELFs, the weather is still cold. Please wear layers to keep warm and take good care of yourself. I appreciate you always, and I love you all!
SM Entertainment has since confirmed the news to iMBC, stating that “Ryeowook will be getting married to his girlfriend in May.”
