Former BIGBANG member T.O.P (Choi Seung Hyun) will not attend the production presentation for Squid Game Season 2. The decision follows ongoing public criticism of his return to acting, marking his first role in over seven years. The event, scheduled for December 9 at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, will officially launch the highly awaited second season of the global hit series.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk Responds to Controversy

The backlash stems from T.O.P’s 2017 marijuana scandal, which led to a 10-month prison sentence suspended with two years of probation. During an August press conference, Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk addressed the concerns, stating:

“I honestly didn’t expect it would become a controversy.”

He further commented:

“The incident happened a long time ago, he was sentenced, and his probation period has ended. I may have underestimated the reaction.”

The director defended the casting decision by emphasizing T.O.P’s dedication and talent:

“There have been others in the past who faced public backlash but managed to make a successful comeback. We believed his skills and dedication warranted another chance.”
