Chennai police arrest popular actor Srikanth for alleged cocaine use and procurement, exposing a wider network of crime including job scams and land grabbing.
Tamil actor Srikanth, known for films like Nanban and Roja Kootam, was arrested on June 23, 2025, by Chennai police in a cocaine case. The arrest followed a months-long investigation into a drug network linked to a former AIADMK functionary, T. Prasad. Police say they found evidence of drug transactions, job scams, and land mafia operations during the probe.
The case began after a brawl at a Nungambakkam bar on May 5, 2025, involving two groups. Police arrested eight people, including Prasad, who was later found to be involved in multiple crimes. Investigations revealed he had cheated over 200 people by promising government jobs, collecting between โน2 lakh and โน20 lakh from each victim.
Police also discovered Prasadโs links to a drug cartel operating from Bengaluru. He allegedly bought cocaine from Pradeep Kumar and John, a Ghana national, and sold it to his close circle, including actor Srikanth. Financial records and chat messages reportedly confirm Srikanthโs involvement in drug procurement.
During a search at Srikanthโs home in Nungambakkam, police found small quantities of cocaine. His blood test confirmed drug use, leading to his arrest. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody until July 7, 2025.
The investigation also exposed a land-grabbing mafia run by Prasadโs associate, Ajay Vandaiyar. Police say Vandaiyar used threats and fake documents to seize properties in Chennai. At least 22 people have been arrested in connection with these crimes, with five detained under the Goondas Act.
Police sources say the drug network extended beyond Tamil Nadu, with cocaine being sourced from Bengaluru and sold at high prices in Chennai. The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) is now tracking other suspects, including another actor whose identity has not been revealed.
Srikanth, who debuted in 2002, has acted in over 70 films. His arrest has sparked political debates, with opposition parties accusing the DMK government of failing to control drug trafficking. The ruling party, however, says the arrest proves strict enforcement of the law.
The case continues to unfold as police examine more financial transactions and digital evidence. Authorities say they expect more arrests in the coming days.
“Our investigation revealed that he procured and consumed cocaine. Further investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said.
“The actor has been in regular contact with three drug offenders arrested recently,” another official confirmed.
