Taylor Swift is full of surprises. The pop superstar, who is currently on her Eras Tour, has announced a major change to her acoustic performances and made a special appearance at the Super Bowl 2024 afterparty with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
No more limits for Taylor Swift’s surprise songs
During her Feb. 18 concert in Melbourne, Australia, Swift revealed to the 96,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground that she will no longer restrict herself from playing any of her acoustic “surprise songs” more than once on her tour.
“That was to challenge me to really get to all the ones that I just don’t naturally gravitate towards, and I feel really proud about having done that,” the “Bad Blood” singer said. “But this is sort of a public service announcement to everyone who might be anywhere else on the tour, or whatever, or watching this — we have a lot of people, we’re very lucky to have a lot of people watch this on the internet and care about these shows if they’re not here.”
Taylor Swift continued, “I’ve just been kind of rethinking, and I’ve been thinking I want to be as creative as possible with the acoustic set moving forward and I don’t want to limit anything or say, ‘If I played this song, I can’t play it again.’ So, from now on, I don’t want to take any paint colors out of the paintbox or tools out of the toolbox. I want to be able to play songs more than once if I feel like it and I want to be able to make changes to songs. Does that sound OK?”
The crowd responded with a loud cheer, as Taylor Swift proceeded to surprise them with a mashup of “Come Back… Be Here” from her “Red” album and “Daylight” from her “Lover” album. Her second surprise song of the night was “Teardrops on My Guitar,” which she played on piano.
Taylor Swift’s announcement came after she delivered another mashup of “Getaway Car,” “August” and “The Other Side of the Door” at her Feb. 17 show at the same venue.
Taylor Swift kisses and dances with Kelce at Super Bowl 2024 afterparty
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, which kicked off in June 2023, has been a huge success, with sold-out shows across the globe. However, the singer took a break from her tour schedule to fly to Las Vegas and support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, at the Super Bowl 2024 on Sunday.
The Chiefs defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by 31-24, earning their second consecutive Super Bowl title. Swift, who was spotted wearing a Chiefs jersey with Kelce’s number 87, celebrated the victory with her beau at the afterparty.
The couple, who have been dating since May 2023, were seen kissing and dancing together at the event, showing off their chemistry and happiness. A source told Page Six that Swift and Kelce are “very much in love” and that the singer is “proud” of her boyfriend’s achievements.
Kelce, 34, is a tight end for the Chiefs and a five-time Pro Bowler. He has been supportive of Swift’s career as well, attending one of her Argentina concerts in December 2023 and reportedly planning to join her for more shows now that his season is over.
Swift drops new album and splurges on gifts for her team after Grammys wins
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is not the only thing that has kept her busy lately. The singer also released a new album, titled “The Tortured Poets Department,” on Feb. 6, after winning her first Grammy of the night for Best Pop Vocal Album for “Lover”.
The new album, which features collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Halsey, Lorde and Lana Del Rey, is Swift’s 11th studio album and her fourth in less than two years. It has received critical acclaim and topped the charts in several countries.
Taylor Swift also won two more Grammys that night, for Album of the Year for “Folklore” and Song of the Year for “Cardigan,” bringing her total number of Grammys to 15.
To celebrate her achievements and thank her team, Swift reportedly spent $160,000 on designer gifts for her staff, including bags, shoes, jewelry and watches from brands like Gucci, Prada, Dior and Cartier.
A source told Page Six that Swift wanted to show her appreciation for her team’s hard work and dedication, especially during the pandemic. “She knows how lucky she is to have such a loyal and talented team behind her, and she wanted to spoil them with something special,” the source said.
Swift’s Eras Tour will resume on Feb. 21 in Tokyo, Japan, where she will perform four shows at the Tokyo Dome. She will then head back to the US for the final leg of her tour, which will end on April 9 in Miami, Florida.
