Fans of the hit period drama The Buccaneers can officially celebrate, as Apple TV+ has confirmed the show will return for a third season. The renewal, announced on October 8, 2025, comes two months after the second season concluded with a game-changing cliffhanger that left the fates of its leading characters up in the air. The series, which follows a group of young American women navigating love and society in 1870s London, will continue the story with the beloved Buccaneers fighting back together.

The Buccaneers Are Fighting Back

Apple TV+ has announced the core theme for the new season. After facing heartbreak and the strict English legal system, the Buccaneers are now united and ready to take control of their destinies.

The official description for the new season states that when the young women first arrived in England, they were navigating their first loves. Now, they are looking for the loves of their lives. This new chapter promises a shift towards the characters pursuing what they truly want. However, a significant new challenge is on the horizon for everyone connected to the Tintagel estate.

A New “Bad-Boy” Duke Shakes Up Tintagel

The power structure at Tintagel was completely upended in the Season 2 finale, setting the stage for a new and formidable character. After Theo, the Duke of Tintagel, decided to abdicate his title, it was revealed that his father had a secret, illegitimate son.

This mysterious half-brother, Kit, is now set to become the new Duke. Described as “horrible” and an enigmatic “bad-boy,” his arrival is expected to cause major disruption. As the official synopsis warns, if polite English society thought the American girls rocked the boat, this new Duke is “about to sink the ship.” The show’s creator confirmed that casting this new villain is a key task for the upcoming season.

Unresolved Drama from the Season 2 Cliffhanger

The second season ended with a masquerade ball full of shocking revelations that will drive the story forward. Theo announced his abdication and his intention to divorce Nan so he could marry Lizzy. However, in a crucial twist, Nan revealed a life-altering secret to Lizzy: she is pregnant with Theo’s child.

In the final moments, Nan fled Tintagel with her mother and sister, leaving Theo completely unaware of her pregnancy. This creates a powerful dilemma for the new season, as Theo must choose between his passionate love for Lizzy and his duty to his unborn child. Series creator Katherine Jakeways noted that Nan suddenly has freedom from her marriage and the fact that Theo doesn’t know about the baby, giving her a “carte blanche to make her own decision.”

Nan’s actress, Kristine Frรธseth, shared her own curiosity about her character’s direction, saying, “I am just as curious as you are. I’m hoping she just keeps running. She meets a group of women, and they all raise the baby together somewhere, and she leaves all the drama behind.”

The Cast and Creator React to the Renewal

The large ensemble cast is expected to return for the third season. This includes Kristine Frรธseth as Nan, Alisha Boe as Conchita, Josie Totah as Mabel, Aubri Ibrag as Lizzy, and Imogen Waterhouse as Jinny. Key supporting players like Guy Remmers as Theo and Matthew Broome as Guy are also anticipated to return.

Series creator Katherine Jakeways shared her excitement about the renewal, saying:

โ€œWe couldnโ€™t be more delighted to be lacing up our corsets, slipping on our ball gowns and running breathless across the cliffs of Tintagel for the third time to see what passionate adventures our beloved Buccaneers get up to next. Huge thanks to Apple TV+ and also to the devoted viewers for loving the show as much as we do.โ€

Fans were quick to express their joy on social media, with many particularly thrilled about the prospect of more story for Theo and Lizzy, with one fan writing, “I thought I was dreaming last night but it’s real! Theolizzy is coming back home! I’m so happy!”

When to Expect New Episodes

While an exact premiere date for Season 3 has not been announced, the production pattern provides a clue. The show was renewed just two months after the second season finished in August 2025. Following the previous schedule, where Season 2 was filmed in the latter half of 2024 and premiered in June 2025, it is possible that filming for the new season could begin in 2026. This would likely lead to a premiere either in late 2026 or early 2027. The first two seasons of The Buccaneers are currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
