HBOโs hit series The White Lotus is officially returning for Season 4, with creator Mike White already planning the next luxuriousโand deadlyโvacation. While details are still emerging, hereโs everything we know so far about the upcoming season, including possible locations, returning cast members, and the expected release window.
Season 4 Is Confirmed and in Early Development
HBO renewed The White Lotus for a fourth season in January 2025, even before Season 3 premiered. Casey Bloys, HBOโs Chief Content Officer, confirmed that Mike White has pitched a general outline and is now scouting locations.
“Mike pitched a littleโI know the general outline of what Season 4 is going to be,” Bloys told The Wrap. “Heโs going to be scouting, seeing what location he gets inspired by, and then giving us more of an update of what heโs thinking, but itโs percolating in his head.”
Filming is expected to take several months once production begins, meaning fans likely wonโt see the new season until late 2026 or early 2027.
Where Will Season 4 Be Set?
Each season of The White Lotus takes place at a different Four Seasons resort, and speculation is high about the next destination. While nothing is confirmed, here are the top contenders:
- Norway: Early reports suggested White secured a $8.6 million grant from the Norwegian Film Institute, but financial disagreements may have stalled plans.
- Egypt or Morocco: Cast members like Michelle Monaghan and Natasha Rothwell have expressed interest in an African setting, with Four Seasons Marrakech as a strong possibility.
- Mexico: Warmer climates remain a favorite, with Los Cabos being a potential option.
- Europe: HBO executive Francesca Orsi hinted that the next season will likely be set in Europe, possibly the French Riviera or Spain.
One thing is certainโMike White dislikes cold weather, so snowy destinations like Norway or Iceland seem unlikely.
“Mike does not like the cold, that is why we will never do it,” producer David Bernad said on The Bill Simmons Podcast. “He is a California guy. He is not built for the cold. Never say never, but I would be surprised.”
Who Could Return for Season 4?
While The White Lotus introduces new characters each season, a few familiar faces might return:
- Belinda (Natasha Rothwell): The spa manager appeared in Seasons 1 and 3 and could return.
- Greg (Jon Gries): Tanyaโs sketchy husband has been in all three seasons so far.
- Fan-Favorites: Actors like Aubrey Plaza (Harper, Season 2) and Connie Britton (Nicole, Season 1) have expressed interest in coming back.
Thereโs also talk of an “all-star” season bringing back past characters, though HBO suggests it wonโt happen in Season 4.
“I donโt think thatโll be season 4, but thatโs still on the horizon,” Orsi told Deadline.
New Cast Rumors and Fan Wishlist
Several actors have publicly shown interest in joining Season 4:
- Lisa Kudrow (Friends) said sheโd love to work with Mike White.
- Emma Roberts joked about being the next murder victim.
- Keanu Reeves teased, “Never say never,” when asked about joining.
Fans have also suggested stars like Toni Collette, Stanley Tucci, and Catherine OโHara for future seasons.
The Iconic Theme Song Might Change
Composer Cristรณbal Tapia de Veer, who created the showโs famous theme, has left due to creative differences with Mike White.
“It was kind of a bitch move,” White said about de Veerโs public criticism.
Itโs unclear if HBO will keep the original theme or introduce new music.
When Will Season 4 Release?
Given the long production timelineโlocation scouting, filming, and post-productionโSeason 4 is expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
“It usually takes over a year to film and get The White Lotus ready,” one report noted.
With Mike White currently filming Survivor 50, work on Season 4 will ramp up later in 2025.
Whatโs Next for The White Lotus?
While Season 4 is still in early planning, HBO has hinted that the show could continue beyond this installment.
“I imagine [White] is going to go beyond four,” Orsi said. “He hasnโt confirmed it, but I think he has more to say than just one more season.”
For now, fans can revisit past seasons on Max while waiting for more updates.
