Tom Cruise showed his support for Ana de Armas’ new action movie Ballerina by sharing a special post on social media. The Mission Impossible star posted a picture with director Christopher McQuarrie standing between posters for his film Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and de Armas’ Ballerina. He wrote “Your mission, should you choose to accept it: a weekend of action on the big screen” as the caption.
The photo was shared on June 4, just two days before Ballerina hits theaters on June 6. Cruise’s own movie Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning opened on May 23 and has already made $77 million in the US and $190 million worldwide. Ballerina is a spin-off from the popular John Wick series starring Keanu Reeves.
Ana de Armas plays the main character Eve Macarro in Ballerina. She is a ballerina who trains as an assassin to get revenge for her father’s death. The movie takes place between the events of John Wick Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. Other stars in the film include Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, and Norman Reedus.
“Yeah, we’re thinking movies are back,” the official Ballerina Instagram account replied to Cruise’s post. Fans also loved seeing Cruise promote another actor’s movie. “No other star openly endorses OTHER movies like Tom Cruise does. The man is truly someone who loves FILM,” one fan wrote.
De Armas, 37, has talked about how much Cruise’s support means to her. At the Ballerina premiere, she told Variety: “It is very special that someone like him is supporting [Ballerina]. It is really special in general to have other actors and people supporting each other. We can do well all together.”
She also shared that Cruise actually watched Ballerina and enjoyed it. “He really liked it. He loved the John Wicks,” de Armas said. The Cuban-Spanish actress explained that Cruise often supports many movies because he wants people to go back to theaters.
Cruise had already praised Ballerina earlier while promoting his own movie. On May 18, he told reporters: “I just saw the movie – it kicks ass. Oh man, it’s right in that tone. It’s right in that big world. You’re going to love it.” He called de Armas “very, very talented” and said the movie would “crush” at the box office.
The two actors have been spending time together recently and are working on several new projects. De Armas confirmed they have multiple films coming up with directors Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie. “We’re definitely working on a lot of things. Not just one but a few projectsโฆ And I’m so excited,” she said on Good Morning America in May.
One of their upcoming movies is called Deeper. It’s about an astronaut who finds something scary during a deep sea dive. De Armas said she’s been “training, just training, getting ready for what’s going to come” for this film. Doug Liman is directing with McQuarrie helping write the script.
Fans first noticed Cruise and de Armas together in February when they were seen in London around Valentine’s Day. Since then, they’ve been spotted at several events including David Beckham’s 50th birthday party on May 3. While neither has confirmed a relationship, sources say Cruise is “super smitten” with de Armas.
Ballerina had its world premiere in London on May 22. De Armas wore a shiny silver Louis Vuitton dress while Keanu Reeves joined her in a custom suit. The movie features Reeves’ character John Wick in a cameo role. Director Len Wiseman and producer Chad Stahelski were also there to celebrate the new addition to the John Wick universe.
The premiere showed exclusive footage that got fans excited for the film’s mix of ballet and action scenes. Early reactions say the action is fun and de Armas does well as the lead. One reviewer noted: “Happy to say Ballerina is actually a solid addition to the John Wick franchise, and a good star vehicle for Ana de Armas, who is a born movie star.”
De Armas has been training hard for her action roles. She did intense physical preparation for No Time to Die where she played a CIA agent. That experience helped her in The Gray Man and now Ballerina. The actress said making Ballerina taught her to “keep looking for truth, answersโฆ To keep pushing until you find your truth no matter what.”
Tom Cruise is known for doing his own stunts in Mission Impossible movies. His support for Ballerina comes as he continues promoting Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. That film is the eighth in the series and may be the last for Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt.
Both Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Ballerina are big summer action movies. Cruise’s post encourages fans to see both in theaters. The friendly competition between the two films shows how Cruise wants all movies to succeed. His support for other actors and films is something fans and industry people admire.
Ana de Armas’ career has been rising quickly. After starting in Spanish TV shows, she moved to Hollywood and appeared in Blade Runner 2049 and Knives Out. Her role as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde got her an Oscar nomination. Now with Ballerina and future projects with Cruise, she’s becoming a major action star.

Ballerina opens in theaters worldwide on June 6. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is already playing in cinemas. Fans can see both films for what Cruise calls “a weekend of action on the big screen.” The movies show two different styles of action – one with a female lead and ballet-inspired fighting, the other with Cruise’s famous practical stunts.
