New promotional artwork and merchandise for Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest have started to surface online. The materials give fans fresh clues about two major elements of the show. One set of art points to the arrival of Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch from Marvel Comics. Another piece hints at how Tommy Maximoff gets his superhero codename, Speed.
The series is scheduled to premiere on October 14, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. It serves as the third chapter in the trilogy that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024. Paul Bettany returns as White Vision, while James Spader reprises his role as the voice of Ultron.
J.I.M. Design Points to Original Human Torch
One piece of merchandise has caught significant attention from Marvel fans. A black and navy T-shirt listed as the Marvel VisionQuest JIM Head Prototype Burgos Labs T-Shirt features a design labeled J.I.M. The label stands for Joule Individual Machine Head Assessment.
This design points directly to Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch from Marvel Comics. Hammond first appeared in Marvel Comics #1 in October 1939, making him Marvel’s first-ever superhero. He was an android created by Professor Phineas T. Horton for research purposes. Over time, he developed human-like awareness and became the original Human Torch.
Hammond fought crime openly as the Human Torch and helped the Allies during World War II. He later served as a member of The Invaders alongside Captain America, Bucky Barnes, and Namor.
The T-shirt design includes the name “Burgos Labs,” which references Carl Burgos, the writer and artist who created Jim Hammond. This detail adds another layer of authenticity to the connection.
The inclusion of J.I.M. in the merchandise fits with what showrunner Terry Matalas has said about the series. Matalas told SFX Magazine that VisionQuest will explore parts of Vision’s past that the movies and WandaVision did not cover. He mentioned that some parts of Vision’s origin could go back much further than previously thought.
“We’re going to dig into so much of who he is in ways that the films and WandaVision couldn’t, including some deeper parts of his origin that may go back even further than what we believed.”
In Marvel Comics lore, Ultron used the original Human Torch’s body to create Vision. This connection makes Hammond’s appearance in a series about Vision’s origins highly logical. The series already features several android and AI characters from across MCU history.
Vision Speed Racing Sign Hints at Tommy’s Codename
Another piece of promo art reads “Vision Speed Racing”. Fans believe this is how Tommy Maximoff gets his superhero name, Speed.
Tommy Maximoff is one of the twin sons of Vision and Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. He first appeared as a child in WandaVision. The character later became a key part of Agatha All Along, with Billy and a ghostly Agatha setting out to find Tommy.
Ruaridh Mollica plays the adult version of Tommy in VisionQuest. The official Disney+ synopsis spells Tommy’s last name as ‘Shepard’ rather than the comics’ ‘Shepherd’. This could be a deliberate change to keep fans guessing.
Tommy’s powers in the comics include superspeed, similar to his uncle Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver. This is why his superhero name is Speed. The “Vision Speed Racing” sign appears to confirm that the series will officially give him this codename.
Tommy’s T-Shirt References the Blip
The trailer for VisionQuest also showed Tommy wearing a T-shirt with the phrase “Get A Grip, Don’t Believe The Blip”. This same phrase appears in the newly revealed promo art.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Blip refers to the five-year period when Thanos erased half of all life in the universe using the Infinity Stones. Tommy wearing a shirt that says “Don’t Believe The Blip” suggests his character does not accept the official story about what happened.
Given Tommy’s unusual childhood and the fact that he was essentially erased from existence, his skepticism makes sense. The T-shirt is now available for purchase at Hot Topic, along with other VisionQuest merchandise.
D23 Display Showed Fiery Figure
During Disney’s D23 Expo, Marvel Television’s booth displayed concept art featuring a mysterious figure engulfed in flames. The figure stood in what appeared to be a burning room or town square.
Fans quickly identified the character as Jim Hammond based on the chest and shoulder design. The design matched the costume Hammond wore in his later comic book appearances.
This is not the first time the MCU has referenced Jim Hammond. In Captain America: The First Avenger, Howard Stark’s World Exposition of Tomorrow featured a “Synthetic Man” in a glass case. The prop was never named on screen, but its design closely mirrored the original Human Torch.
If VisionQuest follows through on the tease, the series would give Hammond his first substantive live-action role. This would come almost 15 years after his first appearance as an Easter egg in the MCU.

Cast and Release Details
VisionQuest features a strong cast of returning and new characters. Paul Bettany leads the series as White Vision. James Spader returns as Ultron, appearing in both AI and human form.

VisionQuest will premiere on October 14, 2026, on Disney+. The series consists of eight episodes. It is the next MCU project before Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in December.
Showrunner Terry Matalas has described the series as more of a sequel to WandaVision than a conclusion to a trilogy. He also confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen does not appear as the Scarlet Witch.
“I would say, if anything, it’s definitely more of a sequel to WandaVision in a lot of ways. But it really exists on its own. It’s more the Vision story.”
The new promo art has given fans plenty to discuss. Whether J.I.M. and “Vision Speed Racing” are simply Easter eggs or point to larger story elements remains to be seen. The answers will come when the series arrives on Disney+ on October 14.
