The rivalry between Matt Murdock and Bullseye has always been about pain, revenge, and clashing moral codes. But the upcoming episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is changing that formula. Wilson Bethel, who plays the deadly marksman, just shared that episode 5 will show a very different side of their relationship. Instead of just throwing punches, the two enemies will actually sit down and talk.

This is a big shift for both characters. Fans have watched Bullseye kill Foggy Nelson and cause endless trouble for Matt. Now, with season 2 already halfway through, episode 5 titled “The Grand Design” arrives on April 14, 2026. Bethel promises a meaningful scene between the two inside a church, where they discuss their beliefs and what drives them.

Bullseye And Daredevil Finally Have An Honest Conversation In Episode 5

The first four episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 have shown Bullseye on a revenge mission against Wilson and Vanessa Fisk. After they used him to kill Foggy and left him broken, Bullseye wants balance. He attacked the Fisks at a charity boxing match, injuring Vanessa before Daredevil stepped in to stop him from killing anyone else.

Episode 5 takes things in a new direction. Bethel spoke with Collider about filming scenes with Charlie Cox inside a church setting.

“I always love working with Charlie. Any time we’re on screen together, I think there is some sort of extra-special something. The scenes in Episode 5, where we’re in the church, and those things where we get to have these really thoughtful conversations, in a weird way, and certainly in a very heightened context, I thought were really cool. In general, I think that episode is a beautiful episode and a really complex one. Getting Bullseye-Daredevil morality, the two sides of the morality coin, and then talking about it in very frank terms, I think, is really special.”

The church setting is important. Both characters have religious backgrounds. Matt is a devoted Catholic who struggles with his violent actions. Bullseye, in season 2 episode 2, visited the same church that helped Daredevil, looking for forgiveness after learning Sister Maggie was not there.

Why Bullseye Saved Daredevil Earlier This Season Sets Up Their Big Talk

Before getting to episode 5, it helps to remember where these two stand. In the season 2 premiere, Daredevil fought officers from Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force. He was trying to save his friend Cherry, who almost had a heart attack. The fight triggered Matt’s trauma from Foggy’s death, leaving him open to a brutal beating. The AVTF officers were about to unmask him when Bullseye stepped in and saved him.

This surprised many viewers. Why would Bullseye help his biggest enemy?

Bethel explained the reason to The Direct.

“I think it’s [that] his main mission now is killing the Fisks. And they just happen to be on parallel [tracks]. I mean, obviously Matt doesn’t want to kill them, but he wants to, you know, put them out of commission or whatever. So the fact that they are on a shared — they have a shared objective. I mean, you know, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So that’s where they start the season. Obviously, it is a really fun place for us to see these two very different characters.”

So Bullseye did not save Matt out of kindness. He did it because he needs Matt alive to help take down the Fisks. But episode 5 goes beyond that practical arrangement. The church conversation suggests both men will open up about their real feelings and choices.

What Makes The Church Scene Different From Their Past Fights

Fans of the original Netflix Daredevil series know that Bullseye and Daredevil have a bloody history. Bullseye killed innocent people, wore Matt’s suit, and destroyed his life. Season 1 of Born Again started with Bullseye shooting Foggy, which broke Matt completely. These two have never sat down for a calm chat.

Bethel called the episode “beautiful” and “complex.” He described their conversation as looking at “the two sides of the morality coin.” That is a big deal because Matt never kills, while Bullseye has no problem with it. They represent opposite ends of justice. Getting them to talk honestly about their choices is new ground for the show.

The actor also shared his excitement about working with Cox again.

“I always love working with Charlie. Any time we’re on screen together, I think there is some sort of extra-special something.”
