The 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has announced six drama series for its On Screen section. This special category, started in 2021, showcases high-quality serialized storytelling that blends TV and cinema. The lineup includes three Korean and three international dramas, all set to premiere at the festival before their official releases.
The festival will run from September 17 to 26, 2025, at the Busan Cinema Center. The selected dramas feature big stars, acclaimed directors, and unique stories ranging from suspenseful thrillers to emotional period dramas.

International Dramas in the On Screen Section

Romantics Anonymous is a sweet love story starring Shun Oguri and Han Hyo Joo as two shy chocolate lovers. Directed by Sho Tsukikawa (Let Me Eat Your Pancreas), this drama blends romance and humor.

Why the On Screen Section Matters
The On Screen section was created to highlight the growing influence of high-quality TV dramas. BIFFโs artistic director says:
“This section bridges the gap between cinema and television, offering audiences a chance to experience premium dramas on the big screen.”
The festival has become a key platform for global streaming giants like Netflix, Disney+, and TVING to showcase upcoming content. Last year, Netflixโs Hellbound 2 and Disney+โs Gangnam B-Side were major highlights.
What to Expect at BIFF 2025
Besides the On Screen section, BIFF will feature:
- Over 240 films from 70 countries
- 17 curated sections, including opening and closing films
- The Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) from September 20-23
- Special forums on Asian cinema and AI in filmmaking
The festival will also host talks with filmmakers, networking events, and an Asian Film Academy for emerging talent.
Star-Studded Closing Ceremony
Actress Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron) will host the closing ceremony. Her involvement adds Hollywood glamour to the event.
Economic and Cultural Impact
BIFF has boosted Busanโs reputation as Asiaโs film hub. In 2019, it generated 77.4 billion won in economic activity and created 1,112 jobs. The festivalโs global influence continues to grow, with partnerships in Italy, Indonesia, and Brazil.
