After a tense midseason break, the 118 firehouse team is back on duty, but one member is fighting a private battle. The midseason premiere of 9-1-1 Season 9 centers on a paramedic’s secret health struggle while her friends try to provide a much-needed distraction for one of their own.

Titled “Secrets,” Episode 7 aired on ABC on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 8:00 PM ET/PT. The episode picks up directly from the shocking cliffhanger of Episode 6, where paramedic Henrietta “Hen” Wilson was discovered by viewers collapsed on the floor of her home. She hid this frightening incident from everyone, including her wife, Karen.

The Growing Danger of Hen’s Hidden Health Battle

Hen’s efforts to keep her symptoms private are starting to fail. The official description for the episode states her secret is “starting to impact more than just her physical well-being”. Previews show the situation becoming a clear danger on the job.

During a 118 call to assist a woman in active labor, Hen’s hand tremors return. Unable to perform her duties, she is forced to order firefighter Eddie Diaz to “glove up” and take over the medical procedure, leaving him visibly shocked. In another scene from promotional material, Hen passes out during a search and rescue operation after being put on the task by Captain Howie “Chimney” Han.

Hen is shown confiding in Sergeant Athena Grant, telling her, “I know I gotta tell them. I’m just not ready for this to be the end of my story”.

This confession hints at Hen’s deep fear that her condition could end her career as a first responder. Her only prior attempt to seek information was asking former nurse Maddie Han vague questions, pretending they were about a “patient”. She even went to a questionable medical spa for a CT scan because it would not report to her insurance or colleagues.

Buck and Ravi Plan a Night Out for Eddie

While Hen deals with her crisis, a lighter story unfolds involving the firehouse’s bachelor trio. Buck Buckley and Ravi Panikkar decide their friend Eddie Diaz needs a fun night out on the town.

The episode’s synopsis and promotional photos confirm this subplot, which offers a break from the intense medical drama surrounding Hen. Eddie has faced significant personal challenges, including a move from Texas to Los Angeles and coping with the deaths of his grandmother and Captain Bobby Nash. His friends recognize he needs a distraction and some time to relax.

Details about their adventures are kept under wraps, but fans can expect bonding and lighthearted moments between Buck, Ravi, and Eddie.
