The latest episode of the fantasy anime series has arrived, and it puts the young protagonist in a life-or-death situation. Witch Hat Atelier Episode 3 shows Coco facing a dangerous exam that she was never supposed to take this soon.
The episode aired on April 13, 2026, on Crunchyroll for global audiences. Viewers in the US can watch it at 7:00 AM Pacific Time (10:00 AM Eastern). UK fans get it at 3:00 PM BST. Indian viewers can see it on Netflix at 7:30 PM IST. The series is also streaming on Netflix in select Asian countries.
Agott Forces Coco Into a Dangerous Magic Exam Behind Qifrey’s Back
The episode begins with Qifrey leaving the atelier to visit the Great Hall. He meets Alaira, another witch, who offers to help him find the Brimmed Caps, the evil wizards who gave Coco the forbidden spellbook. Qifrey tells Alaira that Coco cannot officially become his apprentice yet because she needs to pass the Dadah Range test. He also makes it clear that the test is too dangerous for Coco right now since the floating mountains are at their highest point of the year.
But Agott, one of Qifrey’s other students, does not care about the danger. She sees Coco as an outsider who does not deserve to be there. Agott has spent years learning magic, and she believes Coco has not earned her place. So when Qifrey leaves, Agott pushes Coco to take the test immediately.
She gives Coco three magical items to help her complete the test. The test requires Coco to reach the top of the Dadah Range and bring back a rare flower called the Diadem Herb or Consent of the Crown. Agott does not tell Qifrey what she is doing. She simply opens a portal and sends Coco into the dangerous highlands alone.
Coco Struggles With Flying and Nearly Gives Up
Once Coco arrives at the Dadah Range, she realizes how unprepared she truly is. The ground is made of floating orbs that spin and move. She must use Agott’s magical flying shoes to reach the top. But Coco has never flown before. She falls multiple times, struggles to control her movements, and nearly crashes into the floating rocks.
Things get worse when Coco falls into a pond. The water washes away the magical ink on her shoes. Without the ink, the shoes stop working. Coco also loses her spare ink supply. She is now stranded in a dangerous place with no way to fly and no way to draw new spells.
She floats down a river on a broken boat, feeling hopeless. Coco looks at the floating mountains above her and thinks about how different she is from Agott, Tetia, and Richeh. They grew up knowing magic. She did not. She starts to believe that she will never be a real witch.
Coco Uses Her Mother’s Lessons to Create a New Flying Method
Right when Coco is about to give up, she remembers her mother. Her mother was a tailor who taught Coco how to cut fabric, draw precise lines, and create beautiful clothing. Coco realizes that magic is just another form of creation. She does not need to fly like the other witches. She can use what she already knows.
Coco takes her cloak and turns it into a sail. She draws flying spells on the fabric and uses wooden logs to create a glider. The animation in this scene is stunning. Coco soars through the sky, not by using fancy magical shoes, but by using her own creativity and skills from her old life.
She reaches the floating orbs where the Diadem Herb grows. Grabbing the flower is not easy. She fails several times. But Coco keeps trying. She remembers her mother’s words and her mother’s love. On her final attempt, she maneuvers her glider upside down and grabs the herb. She has passed the test.

Back at the atelier, Tetia notices that Coco is missing. Agott admits that she sent Coco to take the test. Qifrey returns and immediately panics. He knows how deadly the Dadah Range is right now. He opens a portal to go save Coco.
But just as he opens the portal, Coco walks through it. She is tired, dirty, and holding the Diadem Herb. Everyone is shocked. Tetia celebrates. Richeh looks impressed. But Agott turns away and walks to her room, unable to accept that an outsider succeeded.
Qifrey hugs Coco and tells her that she never needed to take the test to prove herself. He was always going to make her his apprentice. He then gives Coco her official witch outfit and pointed hat. Coco, the daughter of a tailor who always dreamed of magic, finally puts on her witch uniform.
The episode ends with a dark note. The mysterious witch who gave Coco the forbidden book stands on one of the Dadah Range orbs and says, The seed has sprouted.
