The CBS police drama Blue Bloods delivered another strong episode with its thirteenth installment of the third season. Titled “Inside Jobs,” this episode first aired on February 1, 2013, and featured a mix of regular family members and interesting guest stars. The story brought the Reagan family into two separate cases that eventually connected in a surprising way.

The episode followed Danny Reagan as he investigated a strange attack involving a man covered in rat bites. At the same time, Frank Reagan dealt with a difficult political situation involving a radio host known for making offensive statements. The title “Inside Jobs” pointed to how both cases involved people working within systems they wanted to harm.

Main Cast and Their Characters in Blue Bloods Season 3 Episode 13

Tom Selleck returned as Frank Reagan, the New York City Police Commissioner and head of the Reagan family. In this episode, Frank faced a tricky moral problem. A bigoted radio host named Curtis Swint came to New York and wanted police protection. Swint thought Frank would support him simply because both men are white. But Frank showed his smart thinking. He gave Swint a security team, but every officer assigned was there to watch Swint, not to support his views.

Donnie Wahlberg played Danny Reagan, the oldest son and a detective with the Major Case Squad. Danny worked a case where a man was thrown from a moving car with multiple rat bites. The attack tied to a union dispute. Danny showed his skill at connecting dots when his brother Jamie mentioned rats at a charity event, leading Danny to link the two cases together.

Bridget Moynahan played Erin Reagan, the family’s Assistant District Attorney. Erin attended a fundraiser hosted by a wealthy socialite named Sophia Franza. The event went wrong when rats invaded the dinner. Erin later discovered that Sophia was behind the attacks, using the nickname “Goddess” to order them. When Erin presented the proof, Sophia laughed and claimed her charity work made her untouchable.

Will Estes played Jamie Reagan, the youngest Reagan child and a Harvard Law graduate who chose to become a police officer. Jamie provided the key information that helped Danny connect the rat attacks at the fundraiser to his own case.

Amy Carlson played Linda Reagan, Danny’s supportive wife. Sami Gayle played Nicky Reagan-Boyle, Erin’s teenage daughter. Len Cariou played Henry Reagan, the retired former Police Commissioner and Frank’s father.

Guest Stars and Supporting Cast

Mark Moses played Curtis Swint, the radio host whose controversial views created a security problem for Frank. Moses was known for his role on “Desperate Housewives” before this appearance.

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio played Sophia Lanza (also called Sophia Franza), the socialite who pretended to run a cancer charity while actually ordering criminal attacks. Mastrantonio brought a strong presence to this role.

Megan Boone played Detective Candice McElroy, Danny’s temporary partner in this episode. Boone later became famous for her lead role on “The Blacklist.”

Vincent Pastore played Richie Tomlin, a character tied to the union case Danny investigated. Pastore was well known for playing Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on “The Sopranos.”

Ato Essandoh played Reverend Darnell Potter, a community leader who wanted Frank to stop Swint from speaking in New York. David Ramsey played Mayor Carter Poole, who also pressured Frank about the radio host situation.

Recurring Cast Members

Several actors who regularly appeared on Blue Bloods also showed up in this episode. Gregory Jbara played Garrett Moore, the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information. Robert Clohessy played Sergeant Sid Gormley. Abigail Hawk played Detective Abigail Baker, Frank’s trusted aide. Tony Terraciano and Andrew Terraciano played Frank’s grandsons Jack Reagan and Sean Reagan.

Episode Story Highlights

The episode showed Frank Reagan’s smart approach to handling Swint. Instead of refusing security or giving in to pressure, Frank sent officers who made Swint feel uncomfortable. The officers surrounded him at the theater, showing that Frank could follow orders while still making his position clear.

Danny worked with Detective Candice McElroy, an airborne war veteran, to solve the rat bite case. The investigation revealed that the attacks on the man came from people connected to his union job. The connection between the two cases became clear when Danny realized Sophia was using her charity events as a cover for criminal activity.
