The long wait for Euphoria season 3 ended on April 12, 2026. But instead of celebrating the show’s return, many fans are now angry and confused. The first episode shows Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie Howard, in two very shocking scenes. She dresses as a puppy and crawls on the floor. Then, she wears a baby costume while using a pacifier. These moments are part of her new job making content for OnlyFans. The quick shift in the show’s tone has left viewers wondering what message the series is trying to send.

Cassie and Nate’s Toxic Love Story Takes a Dark Turn Into the Adult Content World

The new season jumps forward five years. Cassie and Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) now live together and are planning a wedding. But Cassie feels trapped in their suburban home. She wants money for expensive things like a $50,000 floral arrangement for the wedding. When Nate says no, she decides to start making adult content online.

The first episode shows Cassie in a brown corset with dog ears painted on her face. She has a collar around her neck. Her housekeeper films everything. Nate walks in and gets angry. He grabs the leash and says, “You’ve been a bad, bad dog.” Cassie smiles and answers, “Woof, woof.”

The second shocking scene appears in the season trailer. Cassie wears a pink baby outfit with pigtails. She sucks on a pacifier and holds her feet up like an infant. The images spread quickly on social media.

Sydney Sweeney Defends Her Character’s Wild Choices While Fans Call the Scenes a Humiliation Ritual

Sydney Sweeney talked about Cassie’s new path at the season 3 premiere in Los Angeles on April 8. She told The Hollywood Reporter that she called show creator Sam Levinson right after reading the script.

“I remember I called Sam and went, ‘Oh my god.’ It was just a big, huge exhale.”

She also told Entertainment Tonight that Cassie will do anything to become famous. “She will do anything and at all costs to be famous this season, and she makes a lot of very wild and interesting choices,” Sweeney said. “She will not disappoint. That’s for sure.”

But fans on X (formerly Twitter) are not happy. Many believe the scenes cross a line.

“How can Sydney Sweeney agree to do something like this? It’s like a humiliation ritual,” one user wrote.

“There’s a line and sam levinson has severely crossed it,” said another.

“This whole TV show is a humiliation,” a third person posted.

Some viewers are even skipping the season. “Not even Zendaya will get me to tune into this I’m out,” one fan wrote.

Sam Levinson Explains the Absurdist Humor Behind Cassie’s OnlyFans Storyline

Sam Levinson spoke to the Daily Beast about why he wrote these scenes. He said the humor comes from the situation itself. Cassie thinks she is living a fantasy. But the reality is very different.

“What we wanted to always find is the other layer of absurdity that we’re able to tie into it so that we’re not too inside of her fantasy or illusion—the gag is to jump out, to break the wall,” Levinson explained.

He pointed out that Cassie’s housekeeper is the one filming her. For Levinson, that detail makes the scene funny instead of just dark.

Some fans agree that the show has always pushed limits. “It’s her job, she chose to take this role, and gets paid to be the character,” one person wrote on social media.

Maddy’s Return Adds More Drama as Cassie Faces the Consequences of Her Choices

The premiere also shows Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) now working as a talent manager. Rue’s narration says Maddy handles influencers and rising stars. Fans believe Maddy will end up managing Cassie’s OnlyFans account.

This creates a tense situation. The last time the two characters spoke, Maddy physically attacked Cassie for sleeping with Nate. Now, Maddy may use her position to get back at both of them.

Nate also worries about how Cassie’s online content could hurt his business. He tells her that potential partners might find the videos. This puts more pressure on their already broken relationship.

What the First Episode Reveals About Rue and the Rest of the Euphoria Cast

Rue (Zendaya) is still in deep trouble. She works as a drug mule to pay off a large debt to her dealer, Laurie (Martha Kelly) . The episode ends with a dangerous scene. A crime boss named Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) takes Rue to a remote spot. He shoots an apple off her head to test her faith in God. She survives, but the moment shows how close she is to death.

Other characters have moved on. Jules (Hunter Schafer) is now a sugar baby in New York, though she does not appear in the first episode. Lexi (Maude Apatow) works as a production assistant. Fezco (Angus Cloud) is in prison. Gia (Storm Reid) is doing well in college.

New Episodes Will Air Weekly Through May on HBO and Max

Euphoria season 3 has eight episodes in total. New episodes come out every Sunday on HBO and Max. The season will end on May 31, 2026. For viewers in the UK, episodes arrive on Sky Atlantic and NOW on Mondays at 2 AM.

The show has changed a lot since its first season in 2019. What once felt like a raw look at teen life now feels like a crime drama. Whether fans will stay for the rest of the season remains unclear.
