The popular actor Ahn Hyo Seop takes on the role of a hardworking farmer in the upcoming SBS romantic comedy Sold Out on You. New photos from the show give a proper look at his character Matthew Lee. He does everything from growing mushrooms to helping village elders with their daily chores.
The drama brings together two very different people. Matthew Lee is a young farmer who wants everything to be perfect. Dam Ye Jin is a top home shopping host who cannot sleep because she works too much. Their worlds clash when she needs his special mushrooms for a big business deal.
Matthew Lee Does Three Jobs in Deokpung Village
The people in Deokpung Village call Matthew Lee “Mechoori.” This means “Quail” in Korean. He earned this friendly nickname because he stays busy solving problems for the older villagers. The new photos show him removing beehives, making kimchi for winter, and driving a cultivator.
Matthew Lee does more than just farming. He handles raw material development and manages the business side too. Ahn Hyo Seop shared his thoughts about playing this character.
“Since Matthew Lee has many roles beyond being a farmer, he wants to create something with a clear purpose. In that sense, he naturally devotes himself fully to his present life.”
The actor actually learned how to drive a cultivator for this role. He said driving it was a lot of fun. He added, “Since I had many scenes where I drove with senior actors riding along, I prepared thoroughly and treated the cultivator like it was my own car.”
Chae Won Bin Plays a Workaholic Home Shopping Host
Chae Won Bin takes on her first romantic comedy with Sold Out on You. She plays Dam Ye Jin, a home shopping host who sells 100 million won worth of products every minute. Her total sales have reached 1 trillion won. She uses her quick talking skills and charm to sell out everything on her shows.
But her work addiction has a cost. Dam Ye Jin suffers from serious insomnia. She cannot rest even when she wants to. Her biggest work challenge becomes convincing Matthew Lee to sell her his mushrooms. These ingredients are needed for a famous cosmetics brand. If she succeeds, she can move to the main weekend broadcast slot.
The photos show her rushing to the village right after finishing her live shows. She tries hard to persuade the stubborn farmer. One image captures her smiling and drawing an OK sign with her hand.
The Love Story Starts With Arguments
The first meeting between Matthew Lee and Dam Ye Jin does not go well. They end up in a intense stare-down right in the middle of the road. He wants to protect the mushrooms he raised like his own children. She needs to change his mind to pick them.
The second teaser for the show revealed a different side to their relationship. Matthew Lee runs to the emergency room crying like he lost everything. Dam Ye Jin finally breaks down and cries after holding everything inside. They start to understand each other’s pain.
Matthew Lee tells her, “Everyone will eventually see that your choice was the right one.” She feels grateful to meet someone who believes in her when she cannot believe in herself. The teaser ends with both of them saying “Good night” to each other with calm faces.
Ahn Hyo Seop Explains His Character Like Soboro Bread
The actor shared a unique way to understand Matthew Lee. He compared him to soboro bread. This is a soft bun with a crumbly, cookie-like topping.
“He looks firm and cold on the outside, but he’s warm inside. Even if it doesn’t show, he looks out for the people around him. Matthew felt like someone who needs attention and love, and that drew my eye from the start.”
To build the character, Ahn Hyo Seop focused on how Matthew Lee looks when he works. “He’s a young farmer, a raw-materials company CEO, and a cosmetics researcher – someone who does a lot – so I imagined he’d be professional and flawless in his field. But with the villagers, he’d be awkward. He might be prickly, yet he still wants to help. Not perfect, but earnestly trying in a cute way.”
Kim Beom Joins the Cast as Eric Seo
Kim Beom plays Eric Seo in Sold Out on You. He is the executive director at a global skincare brand. The character posters show him holding a skincare bottle in an elegant room. His role connects the farming world of Matthew Lee with the business world of Dam Ye Jin.
