NCIS Season 23 Episode 16 aired on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, bringing viewers a tense case about a plane crash survivor whose story did not add up. The episode, titled “S.O.S.,” saw Special Agents Nick Torres and Jessica Knight hiking into the Appalachian mountains to find answers about a Navy lieutenant who reappeared six months after her plane vanished.

The case started when a woman used a radio to call for help. She identified herself as Naval Lieutenant Rebecca Lee and said she was the only survivor of a humanitarian flight that crashed in the mountains. The plane was heading to Haiti when it went down. The NTSB first looked into the crash, but because a Navy officer was involved, the case moved to NCIS.

McGee Opens Up About His Past to Help the Survivor

Back at the team’s base, Timothy McGee took the lead in helping Rebecca deal with her return. She was struggling with severe PTSD and could not sleep in a bed or eat normal meals. McGee noticed her sitting on the floor against a nightstand and understood she was not ready for normal life yet.

He shared his own difficult experience from earlier seasons. McGee told Rebecca about the time he was held prisoner on a boat for two months. He explained how hard it was to return to regular life after that. When she asked how he made it through, he said he kept thinking about his family. His wife was pregnant at the time, and he knew he had to get home to be a father to his children.

This moment showed a softer side of McGee. He did not just investigate the case. He connected with Rebecca as someone who had been through trauma himself.

Torres and Knight Find a Secret Passenger in the Woods

Torres and Knight went to the crash location with a map Rebecca provided. What they found changed everything. They discovered a sixth body near the crash site. The official reports said only five people were on the plane. So who was the extra person?

Back at the lab, Kasie Hines identified the body using a metal plate in a foot found at the crash. The victim was Cyrus Fox, an international arms dealer. He had many enemies, and someone likely wanted him dead. Kasie also found that the plane’s GPS was hacked. The system gave the pilots wrong directions and false altitude readings. This caused too much fuel to build up in the engine, leading to an explosion that brought the plane down.

While searching the woods, Torres and Knight found the rest of Fox’s body near Rebecca’s shelter. Then someone started shooting at them. They hid and escaped without getting hurt. The shooter was a man named Max Kendrick, hired online to find a camera from the crash site. He did not know who paid him and only wanted to scare the agents away.

The Truth About Rebecca and Cyrus Fox Changes Everything

Rebecca ran away before the team could question her more. They found her at a train station. She finally told them the full story. She did not kill Cyrus Fox. Instead, they survived the crash together and fell in love. Fox got sick from his injuries and took his own life so Rebecca would leave and survive.

But there was more. Rebecca was pregnant with Fox’s baby. Fox was on that plane to testify against his buyers for the CIA. He recorded everything on a camera, naming all the people who bought weapons from him. He wanted to protect Rebecca and their child.

The person who sabotaged the plane was Rebecca’s own field producer. He saw Fox at the airport on his camera’s B-roll footage and tipped off Fox’s rival. He was arrested at the end of the episode.

McGee Helps Rebecca See Herself as a Parent

One of the most touching parts of the episode came when McGee talked to Rebecca about her future. She was scared about raising a baby alone. McGee told her that everything she did in the woods to keep herself and her baby safe was parenting. She was already doing a great job protecting her child.

Rebecca realized she had the strength to move forward. The CIA got Fox’s recorded testimony, which helped them build cases against many arms buyers. Rebecca was free to start a new life with her baby.

Torres and Knight Share a Quiet Moment in the Woods

While stuck overnight in the cold mountains, Torres and Knight had to share body heat to stay warm. They cuddled together in the shelter. The show did not turn this into a big romantic moment. It felt natural and real, two agents doing what they had to do to survive.

Fans have been watching the relationship between Torres and Knight for a while. This episode gave them a small moment without forcing anything dramatic. It felt earned and believable.

The episode was directed by Rocky Carroll, who plays Leon Vance on the show.
