JioHotstar and Prime Focus Studios have confirmed that Ramayana: Part One will be available to buy on demand in India after its exclusive theatrical window, marking the platform’s first pay-per-view offering of this kind for a major Indian film. The film, led by Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, is set for a worldwide cinema release on November 5, 2026, during the Diwali holiday period.
What the Pay-Per-View Model Means for Viewers
Under the partnership, audiences in India will be able to purchase separate access to the film on JioHotstar once its cinema run ends. The film will be available across supported devices and in the highest quality each device can handle. The exact pay-per-view price and the streaming availability date have not been announced yet.
The move marks a shift from the usual subscription streaming route for big Indian titles. Instead of arriving as part of a standard OTT subscription, the Nitesh Tiwari-directed epic will be sold as a dedicated on-demand purchase.
Why the Makers Chose JioHotstar
Nita M. Ambani, Chairperson of JioStar, said the partnership is about taking the story beyond theatres.
“Ramayana is one of India’s greatest civilisational treasures – a story that has shaped our conscience, inspired our imagination, and guided the way we live for centuries.”
Namit Malhotra, producer and founder-CEO of DNEG, explained that the film was designed for the biggest screen possible, especially in IMAX 3D, but cinema infrastructure cannot reach every viewer.
“Ramayana belongs to every Indian, and our ambition must reflect that. JioHotstar has time and again shown how technology can bring a nation together through its sports and entertainment offering.”
When the Film Opens in Cinemas Worldwide
Ramayana: Part One will release in theatres worldwide on November 5, 2026, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English. IMAX 3D is among the formats. Sony Pictures Entertainment is handling the global release, while Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is managing Indian distribution.
The film is the first of a planned two-part live-action adaptation of Valmiki’s epic. Part Two is scheduled for a Diwali 2027 release.
The Cast and Creative Team Behind the Epic
Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana, Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman. The ensemble also includes Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor and Kajal Aggarwal.
The film features music by Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Production design is by Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery, with action choreography by Terry Notary and Guy Norris.
