The latest episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 brought a major turning point. Vanessa Fisk, played by Ayelet Zurer, died in episode 5 titled “The Grand Design” after being hurt by Bullseye in an earlier attack. This loss leaves Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) alone with only anger and a need for revenge. Her exit from the show has fans thinking about what comes next for the Kingpin. Many are now talking about a possible return of a character from Iron Fist Season 2 who could become a new part of Fisk’s life.
Vanessa Fisk’s Death Changes Everything for Kingpin
Vanessa’s death did not happen at the start of the episode as some expected. It came in the final moments, giving viewers a sad ending to her story. In the comics, Vanessa dies from an illness, but the show took a different path. Her death leaves Fisk without the one person who kept him balanced. For years, Vanessa helped control his violent side. Now that she is gone, there is no telling how far he will go. The show has three more episodes left in Season 2, and fans are waiting to see how Fisk reacts to this loss.
Typhoid Mary Could Return to the MCU
The character fans are talking about is Mary Walker, also known as Typhoid Mary. She first appeared in Iron Fist Season 2 played by Alice Eve. Mary has dissociative identity disorder, which means she has different personalities. One is a gentle person named Mary, and another is a tough fighter called Walker. In the comics, there is also a third personality named Bloody Mary who is much more violent. The show ended with Mary going away to learn more about this third side of herself.
In the comic books, Typhoid Mary is actually a Daredevil villain, not an Iron Fist enemy. She was brought in by the Kingpin to break Daredevil emotionally. Over time, she and Fisk became more than just partners. Years after Vanessa’s death in the comics, Fisk and Mary fell in love and got married. She even became his head of security when he was mayor of New York. This backstory from the comics is why fans think the MCU might go in the same direction now.
What Was Planned Before
The idea of bringing Typhoid Mary back is not new. Erik Oleson, who was the showrunner for Daredevil Season 3 on Netflix, had plans for a fourth season. He said that season would have made Typhoid Mary the main villain, with Alice Eve playing a “rebooted” version of the character. It was going to be “a warped love story” involving Fisk. But those plans never happened because Netflix and Marvel ended their partnership when Disney+ started.
Now that Marvel has the rights back and Daredevil: Born Again is a direct continuation of the Netflix shows, those old ideas could finally become real. Oleson had said his version of Mary would be very different from what fans saw in Iron Fist Season 2. But with the “Bloody Mary” storyline left unfinished, rebooting the character would be simple to explain.
The Defenders Are Coming Back Together
There is more reason to believe that Mary Walker could return. Set photos from Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 have already confirmed that Finn Jones is back as Danny Rand (Iron Fist) and Mike Colter is back as Luke Cage. Krysten Ritter is also returning as Jessica Jones for Season 2. This means Marvel is bringing the full Defenders team back together.
If Iron Fist is returning to the MCU, then characters from his show could also come back. Mary Walker was a big part of Iron Fist Season 2, and her story was left open. With all these characters returning, it makes sense for Marvel to bring back Alice Eve as well.
How Mary Walker Could Fit Into the Story
There are a few ways Mary could return. One idea is that she could become Fisk’s new partner. In the comics, after Vanessa dies, Fisk finds comfort with Typhoid Mary. The MCU could follow this same path. But there is a problem. The age difference between Alice Eve (44) and Vincent D’Onofrio (66) might make a romance storyline feel strange to some viewers. The writers could choose to recast the character with an older actress, or they could skip the romance and just make her a hired fighter for Fisk.
Another possibility is that Mary comes back with her comic book powers. In the comics, Typhoid Mary is a mutant with telekinesis (moving things with her mind) and pyrokinesis (controlling fire). The Netflix show took these powers away because Marvel did not own the X-Men rights at that time. Now that Disney owns those rights, Marvel can finally use the word “mutant” and give Mary her full powers.
“The Season 4 I had planned was quite different. It was a Typhoid Mary story. It was going to go into a different direction. And then I was going to circle back to the Bullseye storyline in Season 5.” – Erik Oleson, former Daredevil showrunner

What Fans Are Saying
Fans of the Netflix Marvel shows have been talking about this possibility online. Many are excited about the chance to see Alice Eve return as Mary Walker. The character was one of the better parts of Iron Fist Season 2, and viewers want to know what happens with her third personality. With the Defenders coming back, fans feel that now is the perfect time to bring back Typhoid Mary as well.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently streaming on Disney+. Season 3 has already started filming, and set photos confirm that Finn Jones and Mike Colter will appear. Whether Alice Eve joins them remains unconfirmed, but the door is certainly open.
