The new season of Netflix’s hit anthology series BEEF is finally here, and the show brought in a major new cast. Among the biggest names joining is Carey Mulligan, who plays Lindsay, a wealthy interior designer stuck in a troubled marriage. While many actors need a lot of convincing to sign onto a project, Mulligan reveals that creator Lee Sung Jin only needed to describe one wild scene to get her on board.

It turns out that a shocking moment involving a dog, a coyote, and a desperate fight was enough to hook the Oscar-nominated actress.

Why a Coyote Scene Sold Carey Mulligan on Playing Lindsay

For Carey Mulligan, reading the script for BEEF Season 2 was different from her usual process. She sat down with show creator Lee Sung Jin over a Zoom call. At the time, not every episode was fully written. But Jin knew exactly what would happen in the fifth episode.

He told Mulligan about a scene where Lindsay’s beloved dog, Burberry, goes missing. Later, Lindsay finds the dog being attacked by a coyote. Without thinking about her own safety, she jumps in and kills the coyote with her bare hands. It is a raw, violent, and emotional moment.

“He pitched the whole episode around losing the dog and ending with that coyote. That was basically what made me want to do it. Shooting it was kind of crazy, but I was very motivated by the idea of that scene.”

The scene is not just there for shock value. It actually changes the entire direction of Mulligan’s character, Lindsay. For most of the season, Lindsay feels lost. She is married to Josh (played by Oscar Isaac), but she does not feel like she has a real identity or purpose.

Mulligan explains that Lindsay never figured out what she was good at or what she truly cared about. The actress found this very interesting.

“I think that was a big part of what I found interesting about her — that with all she had built her life on with this marriage, she didn’t really have an identity that she could hold on to.”

Killing the coyote wakes something up in Lindsay. She realizes that her marriage is over. The only real love in her life comes from her dog. Mulligan calls it “an enormous act of love,” but also a sad moment where Lindsay understands she does not have that same connection with the people around her.

What Is BEEF Season 2 About? A Breakdown of the New Story

If you have not watched the new season yet, BEEF Season 2 is an anthology. This means it tells a completely new story with new characters, separate from the first season starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong.

The new season, which started streaming on April 16, 2026, takes place at an upscale country club called Montecito. The story focuses on two couples. First, there is Josh (Oscar Isaac), the club’s general manager, and his wife Lindsay (Carey Mulligan), an interior decorator. On the other side, there is a younger Gen Z couple, Austin (Charles Melton) and Ashley (Cailee Spaeny), who work at the club as lower-level employees.

Things go wrong when the younger couple accidentally films a very violent and private fight between Josh and Lindsay. They use this video to blackmail the older couple. This leads to a messy situation involving lies, corruption, and a very powerful billionaire owner from Seoul.
