The Landry family is back for one final trip through the pond. The Way Home kicked off its fourth and final season on April 19, 2026, and the premiere did not hold back. Fans finally got answers about baby Elliot on the shore, watched Alice prepare to leave Port Haven, and saw the time-traveling pond do something it has never done before—straight-up reject someone.
The episode, titled “Show Me the Way to Go Home,” airs on Hallmark Channel and is available for streaming the next day on Hallmark+. Here is everything that happened in the emotional season opener.
The Pond Sends Kat and Alice Forward to a Wedding
The season begins with a cold open that shows Del and Alice watching Kat run her hand through the pond. They talk about missing someone, and Alice mentions they are going to a wedding. Viewers do not see the groom or get a good look at Kat’s left hand, leaving fans guessing if this is Kat and Elliot’s future wedding or something else entirely.
This moment confirms something huge about the pond. It does not only send people backward. It can take them forward in time too. That single reveal changes everything viewers thought they knew about how time travel works in this show.
Kat, Alice, and Elliot Jump to Find Tessa
Picking up where Season 3 ended, Kat and Alice head straight to the pond with Elliot following behind. They want to find Elliot’s mother, Tessa Augustine, who disappeared years ago. Elliot is visibly conflicted and emotional, but he agrees to jump with them.
The pond lets all three of them jump, but it does not send them to the time period tied to the Augustine family clock. Instead, they land only about 40 years in the past. Right after arriving, they witness Tessa jumping into the pond with another person. Moments later, they see baby Elliot left alone on the shore.
Elliot breaks down watching his mother leave him. He struggles to process what he just saw. Kat and Alice take action quickly. Kat knocks on the Augustine family door, but they quickly realize Tessa planned this carefully. She left on a weekend when her husband Vic was away. Alice then takes baby Elliot and leaves him on Del and Colton’s porch.
The family later talks about what happened. Elliot makes it very clear. He does not want to explore this mystery any further. The pain is too much.
Seven Months Later: Alice Prepares for Graduation
The episode jumps ahead seven months. Alice is about to graduate high school. She is still dating Noah, and she now calls Max her best friend. The two are working together on a graduation-themed fundraiser. Max keeps showing up for Alice every single time, even though they are not together. Many fans noticed his feelings for her are getting harder to hide.
Kat and Elliot are thinking about the next steps in their relationship. Elliot is even planning a proposal. Del realizes she will soon be an empty nester again, which brings up a lot of old emotions.
Del Finds the Time Capsule and Reads a Letter
Del has been digging holes in the front yard for a reason. She was searching for a time capsule she and Colton buried on their graduation day. Inside, she finds a letter she wrote to her future child. When Del finally holds the letter again, she does not remember what she wrote at first.
She reads it aloud to Alice. But the letter is not really meant for Alice. It only makes sense when read to Kat. After Del reads it, her memory clicks back into place. The emotion of the moment unlocks the truth behind her own words.
This scene hit hard for many viewers. Del’s speech about motherhood and letting your kids go was one of the most emotional moments of the episode.
Jacob Leaves Town and Sends a Mysterious Gift
Jacob leaves Port Haven for Toronto. He hopes the letters threatening Del will stop if he is gone. Del rushes to the bus stop and literally flags down the bus to say goodbye, but Jacob leaves anyway. He is not staying in contact with the family.
Later, Jacob sends Alice a set of Alice in Wonderland books he found during his travels. Fans immediately saw this as a clue. Alice already fell down a rabbit hole once. The books feel intentional, not random. Something about Jacob feels off. He seems to know more than he is saying.
Alice Finds a Suitcase and Elliot Changes His Mind
Del suggests Alice create her own time capsule and write a letter to a future child. When Alice goes to bury her capsule, she finds something unexpected. A worn suitcase buried in the ground. Inside are Tessa’s clothes, a photo of her with baby Elliot, and two of Evelyn’s tarot cards.
This is the first time Elliot sees a real, physical connection to his mother. A photo of the two of them together, frozen in a moment time has not erased. This discovery changes everything for him.
Elliot finally says it out loud. He does want to jump. He wants answers. But when Kat and Elliot try to jump together, the pond refuses him. Kat jumps alone. Elliot is left behind, crying in Del’s arms.
The pond literally chose who gets to travel. And it said no to Elliot.
The Silent Film Reveals Kat in the 1920s
During the graduation fundraiser, Lewis Goodwin buys old film reels from when his ancestor tried to make a silent movie at Lingermore in the 1920s. Alice is left alone with a reel playing, and she sees a young Fern Landry on screen. Then Kat steps into the frame, trying to pull Fern away. Both women turn in fear toward something off camera before the reel cuts out.
This confirms Kat makes it back to 1925. But why does she look terrified? What did they see? Fern has always spoken in riddles. Now it seems those cryptic words were clues all along. She knew more than anyone realized.
Rita also drops a key piece of information. There was a deadly explosion in the Lingermore basement during the 1920s. Fans are already connecting this to the dangerous event that likely awaits Kat in the past.

Sam Secretly Watches the Pond Jump
One detail did not go unnoticed by viewers. At the start of the episode, when Kat, Alice, and Elliot jump into the pond, Sam is watching them from a distance. He sees everything. Fans have been suspicious of Sam for a while, and this moment only made them trust him less.
Some viewers now believe Sam might be Colton’s brother, a character who has been mentioned but never shown. Others think he has his own connection to the pond and is keeping secrets from the Landry family.
“The pond said ‘not you, Elliot’—not the pond straight-up rejecting him while sending Kat and Alice through like it’s checking a guest list.” – Fan reaction on social media
