The latest episode of The Rookie put John Nolan in a tough spot. He had to guard a person he truly hates. Episode 16 of Season 8, titled “Out of Time,” aired on ABC on April 20, 2026. Because someone tried to kill him, the law forced the LAPD to protect him. Nyla Harper had to find the shooter. But Nolan and rookie Miles Penn got the worst job. They were ordered to be Glasser’s personal bodyguards. They had to give him 24-hour security. This meant going with him to family court.
Nolan was clearly unhappy. Glasser had already sued the city for $6 million. He claimed the police lied about him being a serial killer. Now, the same police had to keep him safe. The situation got worse when Glasser’s son, Theo, went missing at the courthouse. The team found the boy with Daisy, Glasser’s new girlfriend. Later, the police found that Miranda bought a gun just like the one used in the shooting. Harper warned Miranda to stay strong, suggesting Glasser might be trying to frame her to win custody.
A Twisted New Client for Wesley
While Nolan dealt with Glasser, Wesley Evers got a new client from a familiar face. Monica Stevens returned. She sent Ethan McAvoy to Wesley and his partner Sean. Ethan was in big trouble. A party guest died in his house.
Angela Lopez walked in on Ethan wearing a bloody apron. He was trying to cut up the body. It looked like a clear case. But Wesley found out Ethan was being framed. One of his friends was blackmailing him to get rid of the body. Wesley promised to help Ethan. But Angela wanted to put him in jail. This sets up a tough case between the married couple.
Chenford Gets Ready for the Next Big Step
There was also happy news in the episode. Tim Bradford is ready to marry Lucy Chen. Fans have waited for this moment for a long time. Tim told Angela that a proposal is “happening eventually.” His mother, Joy, came to visit. She brought his grandmother’s ring for him to use. But the ring was very ugly.
Angela and Nyla both saw the ring. Nyla called it “gaudy” and “purple.” She said Lucy would cry for the wrong reasons if he used it. At the end of the episode, Tim told his mother the ring was fake glass. He asked her to go ring shopping with him instead. Lucy walked in as they were talking, asking what she missed.

The Shooter Is Revealed
Back with the Glasser case, the team finally found the shooter. It was Lance Thomas. He is the son of a man that Glasser killed. Lance ambushed Miles while he was driving Glasser home. Nolan jumped in front of Glasser to save him. Nolan took bullets to his ribs and vest. Miles was also hurt but survived.
The episode ended with a dark turn. Miranda did not show up for her court date. She left town with the kids. If she does not come back, she will be arrested for kidnapping. And Liam Glasser will get full custody of his children. It is a scary result for a case involving a serial killer.
