Good news for fans of the classic adventure movies. Universal Pictures has changed the release schedule for the upcoming The Mummy 4. The movie will now arrive in theaters almost a full year sooner than first announced.
Production is set to begin in August 2026 in London and Morocco. The studio made the decision after getting the main cast members officially signed on. Both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning to their famous roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell.
New Release Date Brings The Mummy 4 to Theaters in October 2027
The Mummy 4 will now release on October 15, 2027. The movie originally had a release date of May 19, 2028. This change moves the film up by nearly seven months.
The new date puts the movie right in the Halloween season. This fits well with the scary adventure theme of the franchise. Universal Pictures moved Miami Vice ’85 starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler to the old May 2028 date instead.
The studio made these changes to its full release calendar. An untitled Blumhouse movie shifted from the October 15 date to October 7, 2027. These schedule changes show that Universal has strong confidence in The Mummy 4.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Confirmed for Original Cast Return
Both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have officially signed on to return. Fraser will play Rick O’Connell again. Weisz returns as Evelyn O’Connell. This marks the first time since The Mummy Returns in 2001 that both actors have appeared together in the franchise.
Weisz did not appear in the third movie, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). Maria Bello played Evelyn in that film. The directors have stated that the fourth movie will skip over the third film’s story. The Mummy 4 will work as a direct follow-up to the first two movies instead.
John Hannah, who played Evelyn’s brother Jonathan in all three previous films, will also return. He told Radio Times earlier in 2026 that he had not received official word at that time. But he expressed excitement about reuniting with the cast.
The directors explained how they got Fraser and Weisz on board. They credited writer Dave Coggeshall’s script as the main reason.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin said the script has “all of the heart and the character that you could hope for.” Tyler Gillett added, “I don’t think Brendan and Rachel are getting involved unless they love that script, and what they read, I think they really liked. And it’s a good script. It’s gonna be fun to make.”

Radio Silence Directors Take Over The Mummy 4 Production
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct The Mummy 4. The pair are known as Radio Silence. They directed the recent Scream movies (2022 and 2023) and the horror movie Ready or Not.
David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay. He previously worked on The Family Plan and Orphan: First Kill. Sean Daniel, who produced the original movies, returns as producer for this fourth film.
The original The Mummy released in 1999. It cost $80 million to make and earned $420 million worldwide. The movie became a major hit and started a franchise that included sequels and the spin-off The Scorpion King.
The Mummy Returns came out in 2001. The third film, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, arrived in 2008 with Fraser and Hannah but without Weisz.
The Mummy 4 is not connected to another mummy movie coming soon. Director Lee Cronin is making a separate mummy film for Warner Bros. That movie releases in spring 2027 and stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verรณnica Falcรณn, and May Calamawy. The two projects are completely different and not related.
