The Hawkins crew is not done yet. Netflix officially renewed ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ for a second season, just days after the animated spin-off made its debut on April 23, 2026. The streaming service confirmed the news on April 28, telling fans that new episodes will arrive sometime in Fall 2026.
The quick renewal shows Netflix’s trust in the Stranger Things brand. The first season of ‘Tales From ’85’ grabbed the No. 7 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list, pulling in 2.8 million views. It also landed a place in the platform’s top 15 animated series debuts of all time. All this happened just four months after the original live-action show finished its five-season run in late 2025.

Season 2 Story Heads to Hawkins’ Abandoned Silver Mines
‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Season 2 will drop fans back into Hawkins during the cold winter of 1985. Showrunner Eric Robles shared that the new season focuses on the “Hawkins Investigators Club” as they go up against a new paranormal danger coming from the town’s old silver mines.
Robles confirmed that the seasons are not standalone episodes. He told Netflix’s Tudum that each season of ‘Tales From ’85’ is “not isolated” and that they are “very much connected” to each other. The second season will also dig into the mystery of the mysterious blue flower that viewers saw blooming in the Upside Down at the end of Season 1.
“We’re thrilled to return to the winter of ’85 for Season 2. The Hawkins Investigators Club is back, and a new paranormal threat has emerged from the town’s abandoned silver mines. I can’t wait for fans to discover where this entity and the mysterious blue flower we last saw blooming in the Upside Down at the end of Season 1 take our young heroes.”

Showrunner Explains the Connected Story Arc
Robles wants fans to know that ‘Tales From ’85’ has a clear plan. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he does not plan to stretch the story too long. He said, “I have an idea of what feels right for me, creatively” when talking about how long the show should run.

One big question fans have asked is about Nikki Baxter, the new character voiced by Odessa A’zion. This character does not show up in the original live-action series. Robles promised that the show will answer why Nikki is not around in later timelines. He noted, “I understand the responsibility of ending this story for this series correctly — what the kids process, how they move forward after that, how it connects perfectly to season three and why they don’t talk about her.”
The voice cast for ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Season 2 brings back the young actors playing the main characters. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt returns as Eleven, with Luca Diaz as Mike, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, and Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max. Odessa A’zion also returns as Nikki, with Brett Gipson as Hopper and Jeremy Jordan as Steve Harrington.

The original Stranger Things franchise remains a massive hit for Netflix. The main show collected 1.5 billion views through March 2026 across all five seasons. The final season alone recorded 5.75 billion owned social impressions, with the whole franchise reaching nearly 10 billion total social impressions.
‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Season 2 adds to the growing universe that includes the Broadway play ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ , which won 4 Tony Awards after opening in April 2025.
