The popular fantasy anime series From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is coming back for a second season this summer. The show’s official team just dropped a new promotional video and a fresh key visual, giving fans a clear look at what awaits Beryl Gardinant in the next chapter. The release date is now set for July 8, 2026, and the new season will also feature an opening theme song from the legendary Japanese rock band Unicorn.

New Trailer Shows Beryl Facing His Greatest Challenge Yet
The third promotional video gives viewers a first listen to the opening track “Kurenai no Ha” (Crimson Leaf) . The footage shows Beryl Gardinant in a tense standoff against Mordea Gardinant, his own father. This family conflict becomes a major focus for the second season.
Band leader ABEDON from Unicorn explained his approach to writing the song. He said he saw the main character as a leaf that changes color beautifully over time. He also noted that many viewers skip opening songs these days, so he made a track that starts and ends with singing to grab attention right away.
“I imagined ‘an old man’ as a leaf that changes color beautifully over time. Also, these days there’s a button to skip the opening, so I made it a song that starts and ends with singing.” – ABEDON, Unicorn band leader
The new trailer does not just showcase the music. It also highlights intense sword fighting scenes and introduces several new faces. The animation quality appears to have stepped up from the first season, with smoother action sequences and more detailed backgrounds.

Key Visual Reveals 13 Characters for the Upcoming Season
The newly released key visual features 13 characters in total. Alongside returning favorites like Beryl and members of the Kingdom’s Knights and Magicians’ Guild, the artwork shows several newcomers joining the story.
These new characters include:
- Hanoy Cressa from the Verdeapis Mercenary Group
- Kuriu Rybark
- Prim
- The mysterious White Maiden
- Morris Pasyushka, the Pope of the Sphene religion from Sphend Yardvania
The visual places Beryl at the center, surrounded by both allies and new threats. The inclusion of religious leader Morris Pasyushka points to a larger conflict brewing beyond just swordsmanship battles.
