Laz Alonso, who plays Mother’s Milk (MM) on Prime Video’s hit series The Boys, recently opened up about the wildest and most fun moment he filmed for the show. While talking to The Rich Eisen Show, Alonso revealed that his all-time favorite scene comes from Season 2 – the unforgettable moment when the team rams a speedboat straight into a whale.

As The Boys Season 5 continues its final run (the series premiered its last batch of episodes on April 8, 2026), Alonso looked back at the crazy moment that made him feel like a kid again. The actor shared that he grew up watching The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and always wanted to experience being inside a whale. That strange wish came true on the set of The Boys.

“This show, season 2, when I read that script, and I realized that we were going to be crashing our boat inside of a whale. It was almost like God spoke to me, ‘You got your wish, kid.’”

The Terrifying and Hilarious Whale Scene from The Boys Season 2 Episode 3

The scene happens in Episode 3 of Season 2, titled Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men. Butcher, Frenchie, Hughie, Kimiko, Kenji, and Mother’s Milk are on a stolen yacht trying to escape. The Deep uses his power to control sea life and sends sharks after them. The team jumps onto a speedboat, but as they head toward a storm drain, a massive whale named Lucy (controlled by The Deep) rises from the water.

In true Butcher fashion, he does not stop. He crashes the boat directly into the whale. The team ends up covered in blood and guts inside the dead animal. Hughie is so shaken that he wants to give up, but MM stays by his side. They eventually escape together, but The Deep wakes up later and tells Homelander that The Boys killed his whale friend.

Laz Alonso Says Filming Inside the Fake Whale Was a Hot and Sticky Mess

Speaking to ComicBookMovie.com back when Season 2 first came out, Alonso and Karl Urban (Butcher) shared how rough the filming actually was. The production team built a massive 75-foot animatronic whale on a beach in Toronto. The actors had to crawl inside this fake whale carcass for hours.

Alonso explained that the show’s producers promised him the whale would have air conditioning pumped in through tubes. When he got inside, there was no cool air at all.

“Day? Day?! Try weeks!” Alonso joked when asked about filming inside the whale. “At the beginning of the season, when Eric [Kripke] told us about the idea of the whale, the first thing David (the First AD) told us was, ‘Don’t worry guys, this whale has AC in it, and a tube feeding cold air into it.’ We get to the whale, it’s 90 inside, 120 outside the whale. I ask for the AC!”

Karl Urban added his own memory of that day: “I just remember looking over at Laz at one point and there’s sweat pouring down his face. I’ve never heard an actor say this in my entire career: ‘Can we get please some AC in the whale?’ It was a lot of fun and we were drenched in blood.”

To make things even worse, real wasps showed up on set. Urban revealed during a 2026 Emerald City Comic Con panel that wasps were attracted to the fake blood because it had a syrup base. Alonso described the temperature inside the whale as feeling like 200 degrees.

The fake blood also caused another problem: it dried up and became sticky like glue. Alonso told TV Guide that he and Jack Quaid (Hughie) would literally get stuck to the whale guts between takes.

“Jack and I would get stuck to the whale guts. When we were in there shooting our scene, at the end of the scene, we would have to get up and walk out. There were a couple of takes where we would try to get up, but our bodies were stuck to the whale because the sugar-coated red stuff would dry up during the scene.”

Despite all the discomfort, Alonso called it one of the most fun moments he ever had on a film set.
