The first season of The Testaments just wrapped up, and fans are left with one huge question. Who are Daisy’s real parents? The Hulu show made a major change from Margaret Atwood’s book. In the novel, Daisy is actually June and Nick’s daughter, the famous baby Nichole. But the TV series confirmed that is not the case.

Actress Mattea Conforti, who plays Becka Grove on the show, recently spoke about the mystery. She admitted that even she does not know the truth. The 19-year-old actress told Woman & Home that she was completely surprised when she found out Daisy was not June’s daughter. “I have no idea,” Conforti said. She explained that her castmates were just as shocked as she was.

Mattea Conforti Says the Producers Are Keeping Secrets From the Cast

The mystery surrounding Daisy’s parentage is one of the biggest talking points of the season. In the book The Testaments, Daisy grows up in Canada with adoptive parents Neil and Melanie. She later learns she is actually baby Nichole, the daughter of June and Nick. But because of the timeline in the TV universe, that story did not work.

Showrunner Bruce Miller decided to change Daisy’s identity so she could be the same age as Agnes. This allows the two characters to attend school together and build a stronger bond on screen. While this makes sense for the drama, it leaves the question of Daisy’s real parents completely open.

During her interview, Conforti confirmed that the producers are keeping the secret tightly locked down. “I have no idea, I was totally surprised when I found it wasn’t June, as well as my other castmates,” she said.

How The Testaments Changes Daisy’s Story From the Book

The difference between the book and the show comes down to timing. Atwood’s novel takes place 15 years after the original The Handmaid’s Tale book. But the TV show The Testaments picks up only about four to five years after June helped bring down Gilead. In the world of the Hulu series, baby Nichole is still a young child. She is not old enough to be a teenager like Daisy.

Lucy Halliday, who plays Daisy, told Decider that she learned early on from Miller that her character would not be June’s daughter. She admitted the news was shocking at first. However, she understood that it would not change Daisy’s role in the bigger story.

Halliday also praised working with Elisabeth Moss. Even though June is not Daisy’s biological mother in the show, the character still plays a big role in guiding and supporting the teen. In the series, June helps Daisy understand her past and gives her the tools to fight back against Gilead.

What Fans Can Expect After the Season 1 Finale

The season finale of The Testaments aired on May 27, 2026. While it wrapped up several storylines, it did not give fans a clear answer about who Daisy’s birth parents are. Miller told TV Insider that he wanted Agnes and Daisy to be together on screen. Since the timeline from the book did not allow Daisy to be Nichole, he chose to change her identity.

This leaves room for many theories. Some fans think Daisy could be the daughter of another Handmaid from the original show. Others believe she might be one of the children saved during the “Angel’s Flight” rescue in The Handmaid’s Tale season 3. For now, the show is keeping viewers guessing.

The good news is that fans will likely get an answer eventually. Hulu has already renewed The Testaments for a second season. This means the story is not over. The mystery of Daisy’s real parents will probably be a major focus of the next chapter.
