The first teaser for A24‘s upcoming drama Primetime arrived on May 27, 2026, giving audiences their first real look at Robert Pattinson playing famous TV host Chris Hansen. The 63-second clip quickly spread across social media, with millions of viewers talking about how different Pattinson sounds.

‘Primetime’ tells the story behind ‘To Catch a Predator’ , the Dateline NBC true-crime show that ran from 2004 to 2007. The program followed Hansen as he worked with law enforcement and online decoys to confront adult men who showed up hoping to meet underage children.

Pattinson’s Voice Leaves Fans Doing a Double Take

The teaser uses a split-screen format, showing multiple camera angles at once. But what grabbed everyone’s attention right away was Pattinson’s voice. The 40-year-old British actor sounds nothing like himself. He perfectly copies Hansen’s calm but serious tone that anyone who watched the original show would recognize right away.

“What would have happened if I wasn’t here? You see how this looks, right? At the end of the day, a man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Would you agree?”

Later in the clip, Pattinson delivers the line that fans of the show waited for: “Do you watch television? Well, there’s something you should know. I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC, and you’re about to be a part of television history.”

The transformation is so complete that many viewers did not even realize they were watching Pattinson until his face appeared nearly 40 seconds into the teaser.

Social Media Explodes Over the Trailer

Within hours of the teaser dropping, reaction poured in across platforms. A post from Discussing Film on X gathered over 13 million views. Fans filled the comments section with shock and praise.

One YouTube user wrote, “He’s nailed the tone of his voice and everything. This is why Robert Pattinson is such an amazing actor.” Another commented, “Wow, looks amazing.”

People who grew up watching ‘To Catch a Predator’ said the teaser brought back memories of staying up late to catch the show. Many pointed out that Pattinson did not just look the part but also understood how Hansen carried himself during those famous confrontations.

What to Expect From the A24 Drama

Lance Oppenheim, known for the HBO docuseries ‘Ren Faire’ , directs ‘Primetime’ . This marks his first narrative feature after working mostly in documentaries. Ajon Singh wrote the script.

The film explores how ‘To Catch a Predator’ became a cultural phenomenon. But like the 2025 documentary ‘Predators’ from David Osit, the movie may also look at the darker side of the show’s production. The teaser gives off a similar feeling to the 2014 thriller ‘Nightcrawler’ , which starred Jake Gyllenhaal as a morally questionable news stringer.

‘Primetime’ features a strong supporting cast. Merritt Wever , Skyler Gisondo , singer Phoebe Bridgers , Matthew Maher , and Bokeem Woodbine all appear in the film.

Pattinson’s Busy Year at the Movies

2026 has already been huge for Pattinson. He starred alongside Zendaya in ‘The Drama’ , which crossed $100 million at the global box office in April. He will also appear in Christopher Nolan‘s ‘The Odyssey’ on July 17 and ‘Dune: Part Three’ in December.

‘Primetime’ adds another major release to his schedule. Pattinson also serves as a producer on the film, marking his first full feature-producing credit.

The Real Story Behind To Catch a Predator

The original ‘To Catch a Predator’ series drew millions of viewers each week. Hansen would hide behind two-way mirrors while decoys chatted with men online. When a suspect arrived at the sting house, Hansen would walk out and start asking questions while cameras rolled.

The show faced major controversy after the death of Texas district attorney William “Bill” Conradt Jr. He shot himself when officers and a film crew entered his home during an undercover operation. His sister Patricia Conradt sued NBC, and the case was settled in 2008.

‘Primetime’ does not yet have an official release date. But Deadline reports the film will arrive in theaters sometime this fall. A24 has not announced whether the movie will also stream on a platform after its theatrical run.
