The second season of The Four Seasons dropped on Netflix on May 28, 2026, and fans are talking about the emotional finale. The show, created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, picks up after the shocking death of Nick (Steve Carell) in Season 1.

The remaining friends — Kate (Tina Fey) , Jack (Will Forte) , Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver) , Danny (Colman Domingo) , Claude (Marco Calvani) , and Nick’s pregnant girlfriend Ginny (Erika Henningsen) — spend the season figuring out life without him. The biggest moment comes in Episode 8 when Danny and Claude make a life-changing choice.

Danny And Claude’s Plan To Move To Italy

Early in Season 2, Danny and Claude struggle with their future after Nick’s death. The couple debates having a child. Danny wants one, but Claude believes their time has passed. By Episode 4, they decide not to have a baby. Instead, they announce they are moving to Claude’s hometown of Trento, Italy .

This news causes a fight between Danny and Kate. She had dreamed of starting a bed-and-breakfast with her best friend. But Danny chooses his marriage over the business idea .

The couple moves to Italy. In Episode 7, Kate, Jack, and Anne visit them in their new home. Claude feels comfortable and happy in his home country. Marco Calvani, who plays Claude, is actually from Pratto, a town near Florence. He suggested the Italy storyline to Tina Fey while filming Season 1 .

“We were shooting in Puerto Rico last year, we were a little tipsy having dinner all together, and I was like, ‘Tina, wouldn’t it be amazing if we went to Italy if we get Season 2?’” – Marco Calvani

Beverly’s Health Emergency Changes Everything

The big twist comes in Episode 8. Danny’s mother, Beverly (Vernée Watson Johnson) , goes to the hospital. Doctors say she needs long-term care. Danny flies back to Philadelphia to help her.

Beverly refuses to move to Italy. She makes a clear statement about her choice.

“If there’s no Wawa in Italy, then there’s no Beverly in Italy.” – Beverly (Vernée Watson Johnson)

Danny tries hard to convince his mother to come to Trento. He tells her how much Claude means to him and why moving to Italy was important for their relationship. Claude overhears this conversation from another room.

That moment changes everything. Claude realizes Danny was willing to stay in Italy even when things got hard. He had the perfect excuse to return to America but chose not to take it. Claude then makes the decision himself — they will move back to Philadelphia and take care of Beverly together .

Anne Finds A New Path In Italy

When Danny and Claude leave Italy, they have an empty house in Trento. Anne decides to stay behind and house-sit for them. The group asks if this is a new version of her — “Anne 2.0.” She tells them no, it is “Anne Classic” .

This choice shows Anne finally finding independence. Earlier in the season, she struggled with her identity after Nick’s death. She spent time taking care of baby Gino (named after Nick’s grandfather Eugene). But by the finale, she chooses her own path.

Kate And Jack Work Through Their Grief

The season also focuses on Kate and Jack’s marriage. Jack deals with his anger over losing Nick by deciding to run a marathon. He even punts a turkey off the porch at Thanksgiving after rolling his ankle .

In Italy, Jack runs a marathon with Kate joining him for the last two miles. Tina Fey explained that Jack does not want Kate to push him to be happy all the time. He just wants to go through his feelings. Running together becomes their way of connecting again .

Colman Domingo spoke about the friendship between Danny and Kate, calling it rare and important to show on screen.

“It’s a complex relationship that I don’t think is explored. It’s very intimate. Their choices affect each other.” – Colman Domingo

What The Ending Means For The Group

Danny and Claude’s sacrifice shows what marriage truly means. Claude gave up 16 years of his life living in America for Danny. Now, Danny was ready to give up his dream of Italy for Claude. But in the end, Claude chooses family and care over location .

The finale does not wrap everything in a perfect bow. Anne stays in Italy alone. Danny and Claude move back to Philadelphia to care for an aging parent. Kate and Jack are still figuring out their marriage. Ginny raises baby Gino as a single mother.

All eight episodes of The Four Seasons Season 2 are now streaming on Netflix worldwide, including in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India.
