The streaming service is adding another hard-hitting story to its collection of delinquent dramas. After the popularity of Korean series Bloodhounds and Weak Hero, the platform is turning its focus to a Japanese adaptation this time. The upcoming show Viral Hit is based on a popular webtoon and promises the same raw, painful, and intense action that made those previous titles breakout hits.
This move shows a clear change in direction for the platform’s Asian content. For years, viewers mostly saw romantic comedies and slice-of-life stories. Now, the service is building a name for itself with darker, rougher stories centered on revenge, bullying, and physical survival.
Viral Hit is set to release globally on Netflix on June 11, 2026. The series will be available in all regions, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India, with the usual subtitle and dubbing options.
What Makes ‘Viral Hit’ Similar to ‘Weak Hero’ and ‘Bloodhounds’
Fans of Weak Hero Class 1 and Bloodhounds know the feeling of watching a fight where every punch actually hurts. Those shows succeeded because they avoided flashy, fake-looking action. The violence had weight, and the main characters were never superheroes. They were just regular people pushed into corners.
Viral Hit follows the same formula. The story centers on Kōta Shimura, a bullied high school student played by Ōji Suzuka (known for Silent). Kōta’s life is falling apart. His mother needs medical treatment, and he has no money to help her. To survive, he starts streaming his street fights online. After one video goes viral, his life changes forever.
The Japanese drama changes the setting from the original Korean webtoon by Taejun Pak. The location moves to Japan, and character names are changed to fit the new setting. But the core message remains the same: how far will someone go when they have nothing left to lose?
New Cast and the People Behind the Streamer
The show is not just about one fighter. Director Hideki Takeuchi (Fly Me to the Saitama) and writer Yuichi Tokunaga spend time building the team around the main character. Streaming fights online for money is not a solo job.
Meru Nukumi, a model-turned-actress, plays Kaho Asamiya. She is the version of Bomi Choi from the original webtoon. Unlike the typical popular girl in school shows, Asamiya is kind and real. She sees Kōta’s struggle without judging him. Ai Mikami plays Aki Yashio, a reliable junior who helps the channel grow. Araki Sugou takes the role of Toru Kaneko, the classmate who holds the camera.
This group turns a desperate side job into a real business. But the path is filled with rivals and physical danger.

Why Gritty Action Dramas Are Taking Over
The success of Bloodhounds and Weak Hero proved there is a huge audience for this kind of content. Bloodhounds returned for a second season on April 3, 2026, picking up three years after the first season. Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi came back as Gun-woo and Woo-jin, but this time one acts as the coach of the other. The villain for season two was played by Rain (Jung Ji-hoon) , bringing a Ninja Assassin level of threat to the show.
Weak Hero Class 1, starring Park Ji-hoon, Choi Hyun-wook, and Hong Kyung, originally came out in 2022 on the Korean platform Wavve. It later moved to Netflix and found a huge global audience. The show is famous for turning everyday places—like classrooms and hallways—into battlefields. The main character uses physics and strategy, not just muscle, to win fights.
Viral Hit takes the best parts of both shows. It has the desperate, street-level survival of Bloodhounds and the clever, underdog tactics of Weak Hero. Since the main character’s success depends on getting views online, the fights need to be both real and exciting to watch.
The series will stream exclusively on Netflix starting June 11, 2026. For viewers in the US, it drops at 12:00 AM PT. UK viewers will see it at 8:00 AM BST. In India, it will be available at 12:30 PM IST, and for Australia, it arrives at 5:00 PM AEST.
