The series introduces AJ Pascarelli (Ella Hunt), Abby Chilukuri (Avantika Vandanapu), Davis Beau Bradley Barrett III (Will Angus), Josh Teitelbaum (Jack Martin), and Kel Washington (Nicholas Duvernay). The first three episodes establish their individual struggles before bringing the entire group together for a dinner party that exposes old secrets and new romantic tensions.

AJ Starts Her New Job While Old History Resurfaces

Episode 1 titled ‘Welcome to Murray Hill’ sets up the basic premise. AJ moves from Boston to live with her college friend Abby. She starts her professional life at Fisher Staten, a demanding investment company that immediately tests her limits with long hours and a intimidating boss named Bill Gibson (Jay Ellis).

Abby works as an assistant to celebrity stylist Vanessa Hsu (Constance Wu). Her job becomes complicated when she develops a connection with her client Austin Blanchett (Harry Richardson), the nephew of famous actress Cate Blanchett.

Across the hall lives the male trio. Kel reluctantly attends medical school under parental pressure while secretly pursuing acting. Josh works as a production assistant at The Wes Dryden Show but faces criticism that he only got the job because his father is the network CEO. Davis works at the same company as AJ and develops an immediate crush on her.

The premiere reveals that Josh and AJ share an awkward history. They hooked up during a drunken party in college, and Josh ghosted her before morning. To make matters worse, he does not even remember the encounter when they meet as neighbors.

Kel Leaves Medical School to Chase Acting Dreams

Episode 2 expands on Kel’s struggles. After passing out in his dissection class, it becomes clear that medical school is not his true calling. He quits to pursue acting full-time but keeps the decision from his mother, planning to tell her once he lands a role.

Kel takes a job as a substitute teacher at an elite all-girls school for income. His first day teaching Jane Austen novels goes terribly since he has never read any of her work. Abby helps him understand the syllabus, and a friendship begins to form between them.

Meanwhile, Josh reveals Abby’s secret to their building superintendent. The lease is not actually under her name but under her ex-boyfriend’s name who moved away. Josh planned to move into the unit with his girlfriend, but his relationship ends the same day, leaving him with no need for the apartment.

Abby avoids eviction by using her celebrity connections. She asks Austin to tweet about the superintendent’s art show, bringing attention to the event. In exchange, the superintendent lets her keep the lease if she agrees to get him similar celebrity shoutouts in the future.

The Dinner Party Brings Everyone Together

Episode 3 titled ‘The Philadelphia Thirst Monster’ finally puts the core group under one roof. AJ invites Davis to a home-cooked dinner as a thank-you for helping her at work. Davis mistakes the invitation for a date. AJ also panics and invites her boss Bill, who she has developed feelings for.

Abby invites more people to balance the guest list. Kel and Josh show up, and the dinner turns into a full gathering. The evening takes a turn when Davis learns that Josh and AJ hooked up in college. He also discovers that Josh nicknamed AJ ‘The Philadelphia Thirst Monster’ after the encounter.

The confrontation reveals why Josh ghosted AJ. She made an insensitive comment about his performance after their hook-up. The comment came from insecurity because the encounter was her first time, something Josh did not know. Josh later confesses that the hook-up was also his first time.

The evening ends with Davis suffering from a severe allergic reaction to shellfish. After a trip to the emergency room, Davis decides to play the long game and be friends with AJ before pursuing anything romantic. Bill arrives outside AJ’s apartment but decides to drive away without coming inside.
