The Apple TV+ dark comedy Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed dropped its fourth episode on June 3, 2026. The episode titled “Raisins” finally showed what really happened in Portland. Paula (played by Tatiana Maslany) had a deadly incident in her past. At the same time, Dennis (Trevor’s partner) tricked the police with a very smart alibi. The episode ended with Dennis going after Paula while the cops now see her as the main suspect in Trevor’s murder.
The Portland Flashback Shows How Paula’s Marriage Fell Apart
The episode took viewers back to when Paula and Karl still lived in Portland. Their marriage was already in bad shape. Karl (played by Jake Johnson) seemed closer to his coworker Mallory than to his own wife. Paula tried to make things work, but Karl was mentally already gone.
The trouble started at a birthday party for Karl’s boss’s son. Karl spent the whole time with Mallory and his coworkers. He wanted to look good at work. Paula felt ignored and out of place. She noticed her daughter Hazel looked tired. When she asked Karl to leave, he said no.
So Paula drove Hazel home by herself. She had been drinking at the party. She was also very angry about Karl and Mallory. As she pulled into her driveway, their drunk neighbor Caleb got in the way. Paula ran him over. The show did not clearly show if it was an accident or on purpose.
“The visual language strongly suggests this was not the simple accident she later described.” – FandomWire review
Karl and Mallory showed up quickly after it happened. They helped Paula cover it up. Mallory told Paula to drink more wine. She said if alcohol showed up in the tests, it would look less strange that she was drunk. Karl used his connections to keep the police from looking too closely.
This past event now puts Paula in a bad spot. The police in the present day are asking questions about Trevor’s murder. If they find out about Portland, Paula could lose everything, including her daughter in the custody battle.
Dennis Builds a Solid Alibi That Fooled the Detectives
Back in the present, Detective Sofia Gonzalez and Detective Baxter kept investigating Trevor’s death. Baxter thought Paula did it. But Sofia had her eyes on Dennis. Something about him did not feel right.
The police called Dennis in for questioning. He gave a sad story about loving the real Trevor. He cried at the right moments. He said all the right things. Then he gave them his alibi. CCTV footage from Elmhurst Healing PT showed Dennis arriving for a 7 a.m. appointment. The footage also showed him leaving two hours later.
Baxter believed him right away. He wanted to let Dennis go. But Sofia still had doubts. Her doubts turned out to be correct.
The episode later showed how Dennis really did it. He booked a two-hour session at the therapy center. Then he climbed out the window. He drove to Trevor’s house, killed him, and cleaned up the mess. Then he went back to the therapy room through the same window. He walked out the front door like nothing happened.
Dennis used the same trick again at the end of the episode. He booked another session. He climbed out the window again. This time, he went to Paula’s house. The episode ended with him getting ready to silence her for good.
Paula Turns to Her Coworkers for Help
Paula found out that the police now see her as a serious suspect. Detective Baxter called her and made this clear. With nowhere else to go, Paula decided to trust her coworkers Rudy and Geri.
Geri had already been snooping on Paula’s laptop. She found videos of Trevor being attacked during a fake kidnapping. Geri spotted a ring on the attacker’s hand. She searched Trevor’s social media and found the same ring on one of his friends. The friend’s face was not visible in the photos.
Paula knew the ring belonged to Ash, Trevor’s friend and the fake kidnapper. But she did not tell Rudy and Geri this. The episode suggested Paula might ask them for more help tracking down the real killer.
