Sasaran appears in an intangible form before the apprentices. Nakao shared his excitement about joining the series.
“I was looking forward to Witch Hat Atelier because I really liked its world. And I’ve become very fond of playing Sasaran, a character shrouded in mystery. I’m excited to see how the story develops.”
Hiyori Ishibashi joins the cast as Yuini (also spelled Euini), an apprentice from another atelier who takes on the second test alongside Agate and Riche. Ishibashi spoke about his experience recording for the show.
“The more I read the original manga, the more I found myself completely drawn into its world. It’s a great honor to be part of a work that is loved around the world. I joined the recording sessions midway through production, but I was inspired by the passion of Motomura-san, the rest of the cast, and the production staff. I gave everything I had to bring Euini to life.”
Sasaran first appears in Episode 10, which aired on June 1, 2026. Yuini will make his debut in Episode 11 on June 8.
What to Expect in Episode 11 – The Second Pentagram Test
Episode 11 will likely focus on the Second Pentagram Test arc. Spanish entertainment site Areajugones reports that the upcoming episode is titled “La prueba de la Gruta del Lomo de la Serpiente” (The Test of the Serpent’s Back Grotto). Coco, Agott, Tetia, and Richeh will face a new examination. This test will not be peaceful, as enemies who have been chasing Coco from the beginning may show up during the exam.
The most recent episode showed Tartah’s personal growth. He refuses to let his vision problem, the Silver Veil Malady, stop him from becoming a wizard. People do not believe in him much, but the boy does not doubt himself. The director has described the adaptation as “a reckless undertaking” due to the challenges of bringing the detailed manga art to animation. Hiroshi Seko handles the series composition, with Kairi Unabara designing the characters. Composer Yuka Kitamura creates the musical score for the fantasy world.
The anime premiered on April 6, 2026, on Tokyo MX and other networks. It will run for a total of 13 episodes in its first season. The season finale is scheduled for June 22, 2026. Episode 12 will air on June 15, and Episode 13 will close out the season on June 22.

About the Original Manga
Witch Hat Atelier is based on the manga series by Kamome Shirahama, who both writes and illustrates the work. The manga has been published in Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine since July 2016. As of April 2026, the series has released 16 volumes. A spin-off titled Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen launched in the same magazine in November 2019. Kodansha publishes the English version of the manga for international readers.
The story follows Coco, a girl who dreams of becoming a witch in a world where people believe magicians are born, not made. After meeting a mysterious traveling magician named Qifrey, she learns that the truth about magic is very different from what everyone knows.
