MAPPA has released the first teaser trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4, confirming that the popular anime is now in production. The studio also announced a major change behind the scenes, with a new director taking charge for the upcoming episodes. The news came during MAPPA’s 15th Anniversary event, where the studio shared updates on several of its biggest projects.
The fourth season will continue adapting the Culling Game arc from Gege Akutami’s original manga, picking up right where Season 3 ended. The new season is officially titled Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2. Season 3, which covered the first part of this storyline, aired its 12 episodes from January to March 2026.
MAPPA Confirms Director Change for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4
The biggest news from the announcement is the directorial shift. Takeru Sato, who worked as assistant director on Season 3, will step up to direct Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4. Sato has previously directed the film Zombieland Saga: Yumeginga Paradise.
Shota Goshozono, who directed both Season 2 and Season 3, will move into the role of chief director for the new season. This change means Goshozono will oversee the bigger picture while Sato handles the episode direction.
Sato spoke about taking on this responsibility. “I have been given the opportunity to serve as director for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2,” he said. “Every day, I strongly feel the responsibility of working on a series that carries such tremendous passion and is based on a beloved original work cherished by so many people.”
“I draw tremendous strength from the passion and dedication of the staff and cast who have supported Jujutsu Kaisen up to this point. While inheriting the expressions and possibilities that the series has pioneered, I will devote myself fully to bringing its appeal to animation in the best possible form. The entire staff is approaching the production with sincerity.”
Returning Staff and Core Production Team
Several key members of the production team are returning for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4. Hiroshi Seko will continue as series composer and scriptwriter, handling the episode scripts. Character designers Yosuke Yajima and Hiromi Niwa are also back, along with newcomer Sota Yamazaki joining the design team.
Yoshimasa Terui returns to compose the music for the season. Other returning staff include compositing director Teppei Ito, color designer Eiko Matsushima, and background art director Junichi Higashi.
Teaser Trailer Shows Major Battles from Culling Game Arc
The teaser trailer offers quick glimpses of several important fights from the manga. The footage shows Kinji Hakari battling Hajime Kashimo, a clash that many manga readers consider one of the arc’s biggest highlights. The animation quality looks impressive, with fluid movements and dynamic camera work visible even in the short preview.
Other scenes in the teaser include Maki Zenin showing her full strength, Choso and Yuki Tsukumo confronting Kenjaku, and emotional moments featuring Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro. The trailer ends with a tease of Sukuna, hinting at the threat when he takes over Megumi’s body.
The trailer also opens with Kenjaku sinking the Prison Realm into the ocean, making it harder for Satoru Gojo to escape. It briefly revisits key moments from Season 3 before showing Kenjaku inside the cave where Sukuna’s original body has been kept for nearly 1,000 years.
What to Expect from The Culling Game Part 2
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 will adapt the second half of the Culling Game arc. The Culling Game is a deadly battle royale created by the ancient sorcerer Kenjaku. The game forces sorcerers and non-sorcerers into colonies across Japan, where they must fight and earn points under a complex set of rules.
Season 3 covered up to roughly chapter 181 of the manga. Season 4 will continue from that point, diving deeper into the Tokyo No. 2 Colony and following multiple storylines. The arc spans chapters 138 to 221 in the original manga, meaning the anime still has plenty of content to adapt.
Several key battles are expected to be featured in Season 4. The Hakari vs. Kashimo fight will be a major focus, along with the Yuki Tsukumo and Choso vs. Kenjaku confrontation. The season will also explore Maki’s character development and the growing threat from Sukuna.
Voice Cast Returns for New Season
The Japanese and English voice cast will return for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4. The Japanese cast includes Junya Enoki as Yuji, Yuma Uchida as Megumi, Junichi Suwabe as Sukuna, and Yuichi Nakamura as Gojo. The English cast features Adam McArthur as Yuji, Robbie Daymond as Megumi, Ray Chase as Sukuna, and Kaiji Tang as Gojo.
Takahiro Sakurai voices Kenjaku in Japanese, with Lex Lang providing the English voice. Mikako Komatsu and Allegra Clark voice Maki in Japanese and English respectively.
