The trailer launch of the upcoming courtroom drama Ikka brought a funny and relatable story to light. Actress Tillotama Shome, who plays a key role in the film, shared a moment from the set where she completely failed to recognize her co-star Akshaye Khanna. The reason behind this blunder was surprisingly simple: she had never seen him smile before.

The incident happened during the filming of the Netflix film. Tillotama was leaving the set after packing up for the day. She noticed a man walking toward her with a smile on his face. Not recognizing him, she gave a polite smile and walked past him. It was only when the man called out her name that she realized she had just ignored her co-star.

The entire story was shared by Tillotama at the trailer launch event in Mumbai. The event was attended by her co-stars Sunny Deol and Dia Mirza, along with director Siddharth P. Malhotra. Akshaye Khanna was not present at the event, but his presence was felt through the amusing anecdote.

The Smile That Caused the Confusion

Tillotama explained the mix-up with a simple observation. She said that she had only ever seen Akshaye Khanna in serious roles or in public appearances where he usually maintained a straight face. When she saw him smiling on set, she simply could not place him.

During the event, she recalled the moment in detail.

“I never saw Akshaye Khanna smile, but one day I was leaving after packing up, and this man was coming towards me smiling, so I just smiled and walked off, and then he said, ‘Tillotama’ and I turned back, and it was Akshaye Khanna, but I couldn’t recognize him because he was smiling, so that’s why. He was so very lovely, you know.”

The story resonated with fans on social media, with many finding it relatable. People often talk about how a person’s appearance can change completely when they smile. The anecdote quickly became a talking point, adding a lighthearted layer to the film’s promotional campaign. It showed a different side of Akshaye Khanna, who is known for his intense and often serious on-screen persona.

‘Ikka’: A High-Stakes Courtroom Drama

While the on-set story provided a moment of humor, the film itself is a serious and intense courtroom drama. The trailer, which was also launched at the event, gives a glimpse into the world of the film. It centers on a celebrated lawyer, played by Sunny Deol, who is forced to defend a man from his past. This man is played by Akshaye Khanna.

The film puts Sunny Deol’s character, Arjun Mehra, in a difficult position. He has to defend Shauryamann Gaur (Akshaye Khanna) in a high-profile attempted murder case. This case challenges everything the lawyer believes in. He must balance his professional duty with his personal principles and the safety of his family. The film explores the idea of fighting for what is right, even when the situation is deeply complicated.

Tillotama Shome plays a public prosecutor named Madhura Banerjee. Her character is on the opposite side of the courtroom from Sunny Deol’s character. She is a determined officer of the court who is set on achieving justice for the victim. She is described as someone who believes in doing the right thing, no matter what.

“Madhura is someone who believes deeply in doing the right thing, regardless of the odds. I was drawn to her integrity, resilience and quiet determination. She is a strong woman who isn’t afraid to stand her ground or take on the toughest challenges, even when the pressure is immense.”

Dia Mirza plays Avantika, Arjun Mehra’s wife. Her character represents the personal cost of the legal battle. She tries to keep her family safe and together as the pressure of the case affects their home life. The trailer shows the emotional burden that such a high-stakes case places on the people closest to the lawyer.

Cast and Streaming Details

Ikka features a strong cast. Alongside Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Tillotama Shome, and Dia Mirza, the film also includes Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shishir Sharma, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor in important roles. The film is directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and produced by Alchemy Films. The story is written by Althea Kaushal and Mayank Tewari.

This film is particularly significant because it marks Sunny Deol’s first direct-to-streaming release. He expressed his excitement about the film reaching a worldwide audience through Netflix. The film is set to premiere on July 10, 2026, and will be available for streaming in multiple countries including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other global markets.

Behind-the-Scenes Moments

In addition to Tillotama’s story, another behind-the-scenes detail emerged from the trailer launch. Dia Mirza shared that she had to slap Akshaye Khanna in the film. She mentioned that she was scared because he has a huge fan following. She joked about getting into trouble for it. The scene was actually the very first scene she shot with him.

Sunny Deol, in his usual style, gave a witty reply to calm her nerves. He said, “Why are you so worried? You’re playing my wife in the film!” This moment brought laughter to the event and highlighted the good camaraderie among the cast members. The film promises intense courtroom confrontations with powerful performances and emotional drama.
