Reports say the pop star and the NFL player said “I do” in a private ceremony before the big celebration in New York City this weekend.
The wedding of the year might have already happened. According to multiple sources, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are already legally married. They reportedly exchanged vows in a small gathering of close family and friends before the huge party planned at Madison Square Garden.
The news comes as New York City gets ready for what people are calling “America’s royal wedding.” The couple got engaged in August 2025 after Kelce proposed at his home in Kansas City. Since then, fans have been waiting for any news about the wedding plans.
Reports Say The Couple Held A Secret Ceremony
The New York Post’s Page Six first reported that the couple is already married, citing unnamed sources. The report says they said their vows in front of a tiny group of their loved ones.
“They are already married,” one source told Page Six.
A music industry source based in Nashville also said the city was “abuzz” with news that the couple had already gotten legally married. The private ceremony may have taken place in Tennessee, where Swift moved as a teenager.
The couple has not publicly confirmed these reports. Their representatives have also not commented on the news.
Marriage License Questions And Private Jet Clues
Some questions remain about the marriage license. Officials familiar with the New York State marriage license process said there has been no sign of a Swift license in recent days, adding that they would know if one had been filed.
Under New York law, a marriage license is valid for 60 days after it is issued. There is usually a 24-hour waiting period before a legal ceremony can take place, but a judge can waive this rule.
Flight tracking data has added more fuel to the rumors. Swift’s private jet reportedly made several stops in recent days, including Philadelphia and Tampa. Even with the secret wedding rumors, the big party at Madison Square Garden is still happening. The couple is expected to hold a huge celebration on Friday with about 1,000 guests.
A permit obtained by The Associated Press shows that a “pre-party” rehearsal dinner for about 100 people is scheduled for Thursday evening. The main event will start at 5 p.m. on Friday and may last until 4 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The New York City Police Department has said it is getting ready for a very busy weekend. There are Independence Day celebrations, a World Cup match, and one very notable event at Madison Square Garden.
“In a briefing about major events happening this weekend in New York City, I would be remiss not to mention an event that we are tracking at Madison Square Garden on Friday night,” said police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani has also made playful comments about the wedding. During a news conference about the heat wave, he said, “If you happen to be getting married at MSG, you will be staying inside and staying cool.”
The Venue Is Being Transformed
Crews have been busy at Madison Square Garden all week. Workers have been unloading stage equipment, lights, and other gear. Boxes labeled “Garden Party” and “GP” have been seen being carried into the venue.
Some people thought a castle was being built inside the arena, but that rumor has been shut down. A source told People magazine that while there is no castle, the venue looks very special.
“Not a castle but it looks very special. They have grass, carpets and canopies, and it looks like a place where you’d get married. There’s a stage set up, but it’s special,” a source said.
The venue has hosted weddings before. Sly Stone got married to Kathy Silva there in 1974. More than 2,000 couples were married in a mass ceremony at the Garden in 1982.

Even though the couple has stayed quiet, fans have gathered outside Madison Square Garden. Some came from far away to be part of the excitement.
“I’m here to see the alleged wedding. I’ve been loving her for more than 15 years, so it’s going to be a very amazing and irreplaceable experience for me,” said Swift fan Ryan Weng.
The wedding weekend started with a rehearsal dinner on Thursday. High-profile friends of the couple were spotted arriving at the venue, including Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff. Selena Gomez also posted pictures of herself in a black gown, heading to an event.
The couple made a $26 million donation to several charities in New York and elsewhere this week. This donation was announced by Swift’s publicity team on Thursday.
