The British comedy-drama Trying is finally coming back for its fifth season after a two-year break. The show, which follows the ups and downs of a couple navigating adoption and parenthood, has become one of Apple TV+’s longest-running original series. Season 4 ended with a major cliffhanger, and fans have been waiting to see what happens next.
Season 5 picks up right after that dramatic moment, bringing new challenges, new faces, and plenty of the heartfelt comedy the show is known for. Here is everything you need to know about Trying Season 5, including its release date, cast, plot, and where to watch.
Trying Season 5 Release Date and Episode Schedule
Trying Season 5 premieres on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, exclusively on Apple TV+. The show had been on a two-year hiatus since Season 4 aired in 2024.

Like most Apple TV+ originals, new episodes are expected to become available at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time (PT) on each release day. For viewers in the UK and other time zones, this means episodes typically appear early in the morning.
The first four seasons of Trying are currently streaming on Apple TV+. There is no official word yet on when Season 5 will arrive on BBC iPlayer, but previous seasons have typically appeared roughly a year after their Apple TV debut.

Trying Season 5 Plot: What Happens After That Cliffhanger?
Season 4 ended with a major shock. Princess and Tyler’s biological mother, Kat, showed up at the family’s doorstep. Her arrival threw a wrench into the settled family dynamic that Jason and Nikki had worked so hard to build.
Season 5 picks up right from that moment. The official synopsis from Apple TV+ states:
Season five finds Nikki and Jason dealing with the consequences of Princess and Tyler’s biological mother, Kat, turning up at their doorstep, and the whirlwind of chaos she brings into their settled family life.
The premiere episode is titled “Rollercoaster”. In this episode, the fallout from Nikki’s lie continues as Kat’s arrival threatens the family dynamic.
The trailer, which Apple TV+ released on June 9, 2026, shows Kat bonding with Princess and Tyler, which sends Nikki into “complete panic mode”. Meanwhile, Jason pursues becoming a social worker, a new career path that brings him into contact with new characters like Harriet and Chrissy.
The show has always balanced comedy with real emotional weight, and Season 5 looks to continue that tradition. The series has a 96% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and has been praised as one of Apple TV’s “sweetest treats”.
