The Story So Far

Dream to You tells the story of Woo Soo-bin (played by Hwang In-youp) and Joo Yi-jae (played by Lee Hyeri). As teenagers, they shared a dream of becoming filmmakers and even worked on a screenplay together. But when they were 19, Soo-bin left without explanation, breaking Yi-jae’s heart.

Fifteen years later, Soo-bin has become an award-winning film director who just won Best New Director and Best Picture at an international film festival for his debut film “Wandering”. During his acceptance speech, he mentioned that a girl once gave him a dream, and he is returning to Korea to find her.

Meanwhile, Yi-jae works as a reporter who has given up on her filmmaking dreams. She is struggling to get by and has settled into an ordinary life. When the two exes reunite during a work encounter, Yi-jae freezes and even lies about having a husband and child to avoid him.

The production team shared their thoughts on the reunion:

“Woo Soo Bin, who swept the international film festival circuit with his first feature film, returns to keep a promise he made to Joo Yi Jae, the person who inspired his dream of becoming a film director. Please look forward to the heart-fluttering and delightful story that unfolds as Woo Soo Bin and Joo Yi Jae reunite after 15 years.”

What Happened in Episodes 3 and 4

The third and fourth episodes of Dream to You deepened the emotional connection between the leads. Yi-jae tried to keep her distance from Soo-bin because of his past actions, but she found it hard to ignore his constant presence and the help he kept offering her.

Soo-bin showed his supportive side by encouraging Yi-jae with her writing and watching movies with her to help her get ideas for a script. Despite Yi-jae’s writer’s block, he never pressured her. His protective and encouraging behavior resonated with viewers.

The fourth episode ended with a turning point. Yi-jae finally accepted her feelings instead of fighting them, leading to a kiss between the two characters. This moment shifted their dynamic completely and set up the story for the upcoming episodes.

Cast and Characters

Hwang In-youp plays Woo Soo-bin, a gifted film director who achieves international success. Despite his accomplishments, one person remains at the center of his life: Joo Yi-jae, the woman who once shared his dream. Hwang In-youp is known for his roles in True Beauty, 18 Again, Why Her, and Family by Choice.

Lee Hyeri (from the group Girl’s Day) plays Joo Yi-jae, a reporter who has slowly lost sight of her ambitions after facing the realities of adulthood. Hyeri brings life to Yi-jae’s character and perfectly captures the emotional turmoil she goes through because of Soo-bin. Her other notable projects include Friendly Rivalry, My Roommate Is a Gumiho, May I Help You, and Chungil Electronic Miss Lee.

The supporting cast includes:

  • Baek Sung-chul as Shim Yoo-geon, an aspiring actor who gets nervous in front of the camera
  • Lee Yul-eum as Oh Ha Na, a popular top star who begins to reconsider her life and dreams
  • Lee Sang-yeob, Park Ji-young, and Vadim Petukhov in supporting roles

Show’s Growing Popularity

Dream to You has been steadily gaining viewership with each episode. According to Nielsen Korea, the July 20 broadcast achieved an average nationwide rating of 2.9 percent, which is a slight increase from the previous episode’s 2.8 percent and marks the drama’s personal best score so far. The show’s ratings have been climbing consistently episode after episode.

The romantic comedy has drawn comparisons to other film industry-focused series like Our Beloved Summer and Melo Movie, offering viewers a look at the struggles that happen behind the camera. The series explores themes of second chances, forgotten dreams, and the power of young love that lingers into adulthood.

What to Expect in Episodes 5 and 6

With Yi-jae finally accepting her feelings at the end of Episode 4, the upcoming episodes are expected to explore how their relationship develops. Soo-bin’s return to Korea was driven by a promise he made to Yi-jae years ago, and now that they have reunited, viewers can expect to see how they navigate their complicated history.

The show also features a subplot involving supporting characters Shim Yoo-geon and Oh Ha Na, a top star who begins to question her life after meeting him. This secondary romance adds another layer to the series.

Episode 5 will air on July 27, and Episode 6 on July 28, both at 10 PM KST. International fans can watch on Viki with subtitles shortly after the Korean broadcast.
