What Happened Before Episode 5
The World Is Dancing is set in 1374 during a period of conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts in Japan. The story follows Oniyasha, a boy born into a family of sarugaku theater performers. He carries a simple but heavy question in his heart: Why do people dance?
Episode 1 introduced Oniyasha and his world. He wrestled with his question while living among his family’s theater troupe. Then he witnessed a dance that he felt was truly “good,” and everything began to change.
Episode 2 showed Oniyasha becoming fascinated by a woman’s haunting performance. He sought her out and asked to watch her dance again.
Episode 3 brought a major turning point. The Kanze Troupe received a once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform for the shogun. This opportunity weighed heavily on Oniyasha’s shoulders.
Episode 4 released on July 23, 2026. While a full synopsis is not yet available, the episode continued Oniyasha’s journey as he confronted his own weaknesses and began to shape a new form of dance.
The series is the origin story of Zeami Motokiyo, the beautiful young boy who would one day create and shape the art of Noh theater.

The World Is Dancing is a Japanese anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Kazuto Mihara. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine Morning from March 2021 to October 2022.
The anime adaptation was announced on January 21, 2026. The series premiered on July 2, 2026, as part of the Summer 2026 anime lineup. It is produced by studio Cypic (known for Umamusume: Cinderella Gray and The Summer Hikaru Died) and co-produced by Shochiku and CyberAgent.
