What Happened Before Episode 6
From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage tells the story of Ephtal, a great sage who died in despair after failing to reach the peak of magic. But 400 years later, he is reborn with all his memories and power intact.
In this new era, magic has declined so much that ancient spells are treated as miracles. Ephtal’s once-mediocre abilities now make him the strongest mage alive. He enters a prestigious magic academy to reclaim the true art of sorcery.
Episode 1, titled “Lightning Emperor -PROLOGUE-,” introduced Ephtal’s second reincarnation. A sage with no magical talent begins his second life.
Episode 2, titled “Lost Technology,” showed Ephtal learning that magic in this new era is far weaker than he thought.
Episode 3, titled “Overkill,” had Ephtal’s father setting out on a plot to kill the crown prince, with Ephtal getting involved.
Episode 4, titled “Seek Freedom,” showed Ephtal coming across a slave and freeing her from her wicked master. This slave is Anastasia, a girl with a magical brand that marks her as property. Ephtal frees her, but the brand means he has to keep her as a slave or else the kingdom will imprison her.
Episode 5, titled “Retrouvailles – Through Her Eyes,” came out on July 23. In this episode, Ephtal and Anastasia’s relationship develops further. The episode shows events from Anastasia’s perspective, giving viewers a deeper look at her character and her growing bond with Ephtal.
Production Team and Voice Cast
The anime is produced by animation studio EMT Squared. Hisashi Ishii serves as the director. Deko Akao handles the series’ scripts. Hideki Furukawa is in charge of character design.

About the Original Manga
From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage started as a manga series written and illustrated by Kentarou. The Japanese title is Rakudai Kenja no Gakuin Musō: Nidome no Tensei, S-Rank Cheat Majutsushi Bōkenroku.
The story follows Ephtal, who is reincarnated as a human from modern Earth into a world where magic is real. He devotes his entire life to the pursuit of magic. However, he discovers he has no talent for magic and dies in anguish. But this is not the end for him. He reincarnates once again, 400 years later, with the same name, Ephtal. Having kept his knowledge and power, he sets his sights on the peak of magic once more.
