Taylor Strecker’s path to reality television took an unexpected turn. The podcast host and radio personality recently opened up about being dropped from casting considerations for The Real Housewives of New Jersey before landing her role on House of Stassi. Strecker now says the whole situation worked out exactly as it should have.
The 39-year-old media personality spoke exclusively with Us Magazine about her journey to reality TV stardom. Strecker revealed that she auditioned for RHONJ but never heard back from casting directors. Looking back, she feels relief about how things turned out.
“Now that I’m on House of Stassi, this is where I was meant to be,” Strecker told Us Magazine. “I get the allure of being a Housewife, but what we’re doing on House of Stassi is different.”
The RHONJ Audition That Never Went Anywhere
Strecker’s connection to The Real Housewives of New Jersey came through an unexpected channel. Margaret Josephs, a former RHONJ cast member, recommended Strecker for the show. The two are friends, and Strecker lives in New Jersey, which made her a natural fit for consideration.
“I will say that with Real Housewives of New Jersey, I did audition, but I didn’t go to a casting call,” Strecker explained. “Margaret Josephs recommended me for it because we’re friends and I live in Jersey. That kind of just came about that way, but it was a four-hour interview.”
Despite the lengthy interview process, Strecker never received any follow-up from Bravo producers. “They ghosted me,” she said simply.
The timing of her RHONJ audition created an interesting situation. Strecker was in the early stages of working on House of Stassi when she got the call about RHONJ. Her best friend and House of Stassi star Stassi Schroeder actually encouraged her to pursue the opportunity.
“She’s the best friend ever,” Strecker said about Schroeder. “She’s like, ‘You gotta go — it’s Housewives — you gotta go and give it your all, and let’s just see, and we’ll figure it out. Don’t worry. Live your dream.’”
Strecker took the advice and went through with the audition. The call from Bravo never came.
A 20-Year Journey to Reality TV
Strecker’s path to television didn’t happen overnight. She spent years building her career in radio and podcasting before getting her chance on camera.
The reality TV bug bit Strecker early. She recalled watching The Real World during her high school years when she was grounded. “It’s my parents’ fault that I want to be a reality TV personality,” she joked. “I had dreams of doing it, but I really never thought it would come to fruition because I was a radio girlie”.
Strecker’s radio career included work at SiriusXM. About 10 or 15 years ago, she worked on a sizzle reel project called Radio in the City with executive producer Erin Foye. The project never got picked up.
“I’ve been working at this for a minute and it only took me 20 years,” Strecker reflected.
House of Stassi Brings a Different Kind of Reality Show
House of Stassi premiered on July 29, 2026, on Freeform, with full seasons available for streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ starting July 30. The show features Schroeder, her husband Beau Clark, and their close circle of friends.
The series offers a different approach to reality television. Schroeder described the show as breaking the fourth wall and acknowledging the filming process throughout. “Quite literally nothing is off-limits. You’re going to see everything,” Schroeder said.
Strecker found the filming experience transformative. “A producer said to me at the beginning of filming, ‘If you think it, say it.’ That was the greatest piece of advice,” she shared. “It’s really group therapy. I feel closer to Stassi. I feel closer to my wife. I feel closer to everybody in the cast”.
Why Strecker Doesn’t Regret Missing Out on RHONJ
Despite her earlier interest in joining the Housewives franchise, Strecker has changed her mind about being on RHONJ.
“Here’s the deal. I don’t think I’m a fit for Jersey,” she told Us Magazine. “Me and Teresa Giudice, can you imagine it? I just don’t. It is like oil and water. I don’t think it would work. I also don’t want to go up against Teresa”.
The contrast between the two shows is clear to Strecker. “I love that it’s different. So I think my dreams of being a Housewife … we’ve moved on. I’m fulfilling my destiny now,” she said.
House of Stassi Season 15 of RHONJ began filming in spring 2026 after a nearly three-year hiatus. The season features returning veterans Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga, and Dolores Catania.
Strecker also had concerns about how joining a reality show would affect her marriage to her wife, Taylor “Teddy” Donohue. “I’m obsessed with my wife. She’s my everything,” Strecker said. Despite initial hesitation, Donohue eventually came around to the idea and now runs their business.
The couple has a six-month-old daughter, and Strecker considers herself “Dad” to their child.

A Friendship That Started 15 Years Ago
Strecker and Schroeder’s friendship goes back more than a decade. They first met when Strecker interviewed Schroeder at SiriusXM after Season 1 of Vanderpump Rules.
“Immediately, I was like, ‘Soulmate energy.’ It’s like a dream come true,” Strecker recalled.
Schroeder drew inspiration from Kris Jenner when creating House of Stassi. “Look at what she’s done for her family. Look at the opportunities she’s given them and how she’s built up their careers. I want to be able to do that for the people I love,” Schroeder said.
The show features a cast including Schroeder, Katie Maloney, Beau Clark, Kristina Kelly, Strecker, Georgianna Aubin, Rob Evors, and Donohue.
House of Stassi is now streaming on Hulu. All episodes are available for viewers worldwide.
