Telugu cinema has seen many big-budget films take months or even years to complete. But Maa Inti Bangaaram broke that norm. The Samantha Ruth Prabhu-starrer was filmed in just 54 days and went on to collect over ₹100 crore at the worldwide box office. The film, directed by B.V. Nandini Reddy, became the first female-led Telugu movie to cross the ₹100 crore mark globally. Producer Himank Duvvuru recently opened up about the disciplined approach that made this possible.

A structured process that saved time

According to Himank Duvvuru, the production house follows a well-planned process before filming begins. The writers’ room, led by Raj Nidimoru, always works on developing new stories. At any given time, they have five to six scripts being developed in-house.

“We shot our first film, Subham, in 38 days and Maa Inti Bangaaram in 54. This only happened because we don’t go to set until we know exactly what we’re shooting. It’s not on the fly.”

The team starts filming only after completing almost the entire script. While small changes happen on set, they usually begin with a script that is about 90 percent locked. Himank explained that they sit down and figure out the number of days they need. This approach helps them shoot more than the industry average.

“We sit down and chart, okay, this is the number of days we need. We end up shooting more than the industry average that way. Raj and DK’s D2R Films in Mumbai shoot very fast, so having that experience helps. More or less, we already know how the edit is going to turn out.”

Questioning every scene before shooting

The production team does not just accept everything the direction team asks for. They actively question the need for each scene and the way it is planned to be shot. Himank shared that his production team works closely with the direction team and asks important questions. They ask why a scene is needed and whether a location can be moved elsewhere for faster shooting.

“Our team breaks it down, works closely with the direction team, and asks them questions. Why do you want to shoot this? Where do you need it to be done? It’s a healthy exercise to do it this way.”

He added that the industry norm is for the direction team to tell producers what they need with little pushback. But his team asks why something cannot be done differently. The production team gets very involved in making sure the set runs smoothly and faster.

Keeping every actor busy on set

‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’ featured a large cast including Gulshan Devaiah, Sreemukhi, Gautami, Manjusha Mukkavilli, and others. Himank said the team carefully planned schedules based on all actors’ availability, especially for group scenes.

“I don’t want to shoot the same scene from another angle on a different day just because we don’t have one actor for a family scene.”

He also said the team never calls actors to the set unless they are ready to shoot. Actors waiting all day in costume and makeup only to be sent home is something they avoid.

“We don’t do that. If the actor comes, they have to be busy. This way, we maximise the potential. I honestly believe it’s smoother this way, and the whole team runs on better understanding.”

Early teaser changed industry perception

Many exhibitors and distributors were initially unsure about backing a female-led action film. To change that perception, the makers released the teaser months before the film’s release. For a May release, dropping the teaser in January seemed early but that was the point. The teaser helped everyone understand the film’s scale and quality.

Main distributor deals closed by January, and OTT and satellite agreements followed by March. With this, the team was able to close distribution deals much earlier than expected.

Committing to the release date

The film moved just once, by a month, to avoid the IPL window, before landing in theatres in June. Himank explained that repeated postponements erode audience trust and read as a sign the film is not ready.

“Announce a window, hit it. That consistency is what keeps distributors, exhibitors and audiences confident a team knows what it’s doing.”

The ₹100 crore box office achievement

‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’ was theatrically released on June 19, 2026. The film had a decent pre-release buzz, which helped it register a good start. With positive word-of-mouth, it went on to score big at the box office.

The film’s closing worldwide box office collection stands at ₹100.96 crore gross. In India, it earned ₹62 crore net, which equals ₹73.16 crore gross. Overseas, it grossed ₹27.8 crore. The film was made on a budget of ₹30 crore and recorded a return on investment of 106.66 percent. It became Samantha’s first-ever ₹100 crore grosser globally as a solo lead.

The film also became the first-ever female-led Tollywood film to cross the ₹100 crore mark worldwide. It surpassed Anushka Shetty’s ‘Rudhramadevi’ (₹86.92 crore) to become the highest-grossing female-led Telugu film.

Samantha’s reaction to the milestone

When producer Raj Nidimoru showed Samantha Ruth Prabhu the film’s worldwide box office numbers on an iPad, her reaction was priceless. A thrilled Samantha told him, “We did 100 crores,” with a broad smile.

Before the film’s release, Samantha had serious doubts. She wrote in her caption:

“Before the release of Maa Inti Bangaram, I remember obsessing over one thing: were people even talking about the film? Were the assets we were putting out reaching people? Did they know this film existed?”

She also shared a story about an exhibitor who doubted the film’s potential.

“A friend of mine called an exhibitor in a B centre. He didn’t know I was listening. My friend asked, “What do you think about Maa Inti Bangaram? How much do you think it’ll open at?” The exhibitor didn’t hesitate. “Why would anyone watch a heroine film? If she’s in a big hero’s film, fine. People know her for the glamour. But a film led by a heroine? Who will come? Nobody.” That was the perception before Maa Inti Bangaram released.”

Samantha reflected on the film’s success:

“I think real change only happens when someone is willing to take a risk. Most of the time, those risks don’t pay off. Every once in a while, they do. For us, this one did. And I hope this is the beginning of something bigger.”

OTT release

Following its successful theatrical run, ‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’ began streaming on JioHotstar from July 17, 2026. The OTT release came 28 days after its theatrical debut. JioHotstar released the Telugu version first, with Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions expected to stream later.
