The Telugu action drama Lenin has completed its theatrical run and is now making its way to digital platforms. Starring Akhil Akkineni and Bhagyashri Borse, the film is set to premiere on ZEE5 from August 7, 2026. This marks a significant moment for Akhil Akkineni, as the film has become the biggest commercial success of his career so far.
The movie originally arrived in cinemas on July 10, 2026. Following the common trend in Telugu cinema where films move to OTT platforms within a month of their theatrical release, Lenin is now ready for its digital debut. The streaming platform officially confirmed the premiere through its social media channels and also released a new OTT trailer.
When and Where to Watch Lenin
Lenin will be available for streaming exclusively on ZEE5 starting August 7, 2026. The film will be available in its original language, Telugu. Additionally, dubbed versions in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada will also be available for viewers.
The OTT platform announced the date with a new trailer. Their caption read:

The trailer features a voiceover by Akhil’s father, veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni. Nagarjuna also shot a special promotional video to announce the OTT release. In the video, he expressed his happiness about the date, noting that August is his birthday month. He encouraged audiences who missed the theatrical run to catch it on streaming.

A Comeback Story for Akhil Akkineni
Lenin has proven to be a major comeback for Akhil Akkineni. His previous film, the spy thriller Agent (2023), directed by Surender Reddy, failed to make an impact at the box office. Despite being made on a large budget, Agent collected only around ₹13.40 crore worldwide.
The failure of Agent was a significant setback for Akhil. He had been waiting for a successful project for a long time. Lenin reversed that trend and gave him the hit he desperately needed.
According to the trade website Sacnilk, the film has collected ₹49.14 crore net in India and ₹67.09 crore gross worldwide since its theatrical release. The film sold over 1.15 million tickets on BookMyShow. Over its 24-day run, the film maintained its presence across 31,783 shows. This makes it the biggest commercial success of Akhil Akkineni’s career.
The film’s box office performance offered significant career momentum for Akhil. Lenin proved to be a comeback for the actor who had been waiting for a hit.
The Story and Setting of Lenin
Lenin is written and directed by Murali Kishor Abburu. The film is set in a fictional village in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district. The story opens in 1976 and remains firmly rooted in a traditional rural setting.
The narrative follows an orphan who is raised by the influential village head Jayyamma. As he grows up, he falls in love with Bharathi, but his life takes an unexpected turn. The film also incorporates references to the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.
The film’s plot centers on a young man whose personal journey evolves into a larger battle against injustice. An emotional love story gradually unfolds into an intense conflict rooted in family bonds, power struggles, and the determination to protect one’s people.
Set against the backdrop of a sacred local festival, the narrative follows Lenin as he is forced to navigate a violent path of revenge to protect those he cares about. What begins as a personal reckoning widens into something closer to a war over land, power, and loyalty.
Cast and Performances
Lenin stars Akhil Akkineni in the title role, playing a village-based character. This marks a shift away from his earlier urban action image. Bhagyashri Borse appears as Bharathi and shares the screen with him.
The supporting cast includes Sivaji in a prominent role, along with Sunil, Easwari Rao, Brahmaji, Getup Srinu, Ramki, and Pramod Panju.
The Times of India Entertainment Desk reviewed the film positively and wrote:
“Returning after a three-year gap, Akhil Akkineni settles comfortably into his first full-fledged rural role. He underplays the character for much of the film before delivering his strongest performance in the emotionally charged climax. Bhagyashri Borse is convincing as free-spirited Bharathi, while the supporting cast lends credibility to the story.”
The review also noted that strong cinematography, an impactful background score, and a gripping final hour outweigh the film’s uneven pacing. Lenin is not without its flaws, but its performances, engaging twists, and satisfying second half make it a worthwhile watch.

Lenin is jointly produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni and Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under the banners of Manam Enterprises LLP and Sithara Entertainments. The film is presented by Annapurna Studios.
Thaman S composed the music and the background score, which came in for particular praise during the theatrical run. Navin Nooli handled the editing.
