Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will debut on Netflix on August 27, 2026, before arriving on YouTube and the official GTA 6 website. The streaming platform gets an exclusive six-hour window to show the new footage.
This marks a first-of-its-kind partnership between Rockstar and Netflix for a major game reveal. The extended look arrives as fans have been waiting months for more information about the game, which is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026.
Netflix Gets Exclusive Six-Hour Window
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. BST) on August 27. Netflix subscribers can watch the footage six hours before it becomes available anywhere else.
The same footage will launch on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET on August 27. For viewers in the UK, that means 2 a.m. BST on August 28. Indian viewers can watch on YouTube at 6:30 a.m. IST on August 28.
Rockstar announced the partnership through a post on X (formerly Twitter). The company confirmed that Netflix would be the first place to see the extended look.
What to Expect from the Extended Look
Rockstar has not confirmed the exact length of the presentation or what it will include. The title “An Extended Look” suggests the footage will be more substantial than the two previous trailers.
The first two GTA 6 trailers used in-engine footage without showing actual gameplay. Fans have been waiting to see unedited gameplay, and this extended look is expected to finally deliver that.
The presentation will likely provide a deeper dive into the story, gameplay mechanics, and the open world of Vice City. Rockstar has released two trailers so far: one in December 2023 and another in May 2025.
Game Release Date and Pre-Order Details
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on November 19, 2026. This comes more than 13 years after the release of GTA V.
Pre-orders for the game began on June 25, 2026. The standard edition costs $80 USD, while the Ultimate Edition costs $100 USD and includes various in-game rewards.
Players who purchase the standard version can upgrade to the Ultimate Edition at any time. The game will be available through digital storefronts such as the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, as well as select retailers.
Story and Characters
The game follows Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval as the main characters. Their story draws inspiration from notorious American criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.
The official synopsis reads:
“Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
The game is set in the state of Leonida, with Vice City as the main location.
Netflix’s Growing Role in Gaming
Netflix called the collaboration “a first-of-its-kind partnership to premiere an extended look at the next evolution in the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series”.
Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s VP of Nonfiction Series, said:
“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first. It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”
Netflix has been expanding into gaming in recent years. The company has acquired game studios including Night School Studio and Boss Fight Entertainment. Earlier this year, FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition was released on the platform.
Fan Response and Anticipation
The announcement comes after months of silence from Rockstar about the game’s progress. Fans had been asking for the third trailer, and this extended look appears to be the answer.
Some fans had expected a third trailer to drop around the time pre-orders opened in June. Instead, Rockstar released a batch of new screenshots.
With the game’s release just months away, this extended look arrives at a critical time. By this point in the release cycles of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, hands-on previews were already available. GTA 6 has not had any preview events yet.
