The Reagan family reunion continues as Donnie Wahlberg confirmed that Will Estes will reprise his role as Jamie Reagan in the second season of the Blue Bloods spin-off series Boston Blue. Estes played Jamie Reagan for all 14 seasons of the original CBS drama.
Wahlberg shared the news through his Instagram Stories on August 7, 2026. He posted a photo from the set featuring Estes alongside his Boston Blue castmates Sonequa Martin-Green, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen. The caption read:
“Welcome (back) to the family! Jamie Reagan! aka Will Estes!”
Estes appeared on set in Boston during the first week of August 2026. Fans also captured video of Wahlberg and Estes filming together in the city. The episode featuring Estes has not been confirmed, but his appearance marks another Blue Bloods cast member crossing over to the spin-off.
Another Reagan Family Member Joins Boston Blue
Estes becomes the third Reagan family member to appear on Boston Blue following the original series. Bridget Moynahan appeared as Erin Reagan in the first season. She guest-starred in the premiere episode and episode 17. Moynahan also directed an episode of Boston Blue during season one.
Len Cariou reprised his role as Henry Reagan, the family patriarch. He appeared as a guest star in episode 13. Will Hochman also returned as Joe Hill, the son of Danny’s late brother Joe.
Marisa Ramirez has appeared in a recurring role as Detective Maria Baez. Her character appeared in five episodes during the first season. Baez and Danny started dating after Blue Bloods ended.
Estes has not appeared on screen since Blue Bloods finished its run in December 2024. His last non-Blue Bloods acting credit came in 2015 with the film Anchors. His return to the franchise gives fans another chance to see the character they followed for over a decade.
What to Expect from Season 2
Boston Blue season two will premiere on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. The show will stream the next day on Paramount+. Production began in Toronto in early July 2026, with occasional filming in Boston.
The series follows Danny Reagan after he leaves the NYPD and joins the Boston Police Department. He moves to Boston to be closer to his son Sean, played by Mika Amonsen. Sean is a rookie officer with the BPD.
Danny partners with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green. Lena comes from a powerful law enforcement family. The cast also includes Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, and Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver.
Season one ended with several unresolved storylines. Lena Silver survived being shot on the job. The fate of her boyfriend remained unknown after a car accident. Danny also faced questions about a potential promotion.
Showrunner Brandon Sonnier previously discussed Danny’s future:
“What detective is more overdue for a promotion than Danny Reagan? What does it look like for Danny Reagan to be in charge of people? What does it look like for Danny Reagan to have to answer in a different way to the hierarchy?”
