The rumors about Daredevil joining the Avengers in Secret Wars have been going on for months. Fans have been waiting to see if Charlie Cox would bring his street-level hero to the big screen alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The actor has now given a clear answer, and it is not what many were hoping for.
Cox appeared at MCM Comic Con in Birmingham on August 8, 2026, alongside his Daredevil: Born Again co-star Deborah Ann Woll for a Spotlight panel. During the event, a fan asked him directly about the possibility of Daredevil appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars.
His response was short and direct.
“No, I’m not going to be in it, no.”
He then apologized to the crowd and added something that caught everyone’s attention.
“And you should believe me now. I’m not a liar.”
The actor knows why fans might not take his word at face value. He spent months telling people he was not in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and many did not believe him. That movie came out in July 2026, and Daredevil was nowhere to be found. Jon Bernthal appeared as Punisher instead, with a big role in the film.
Cox talked about how frustrating it was to keep denying his involvement.
“It’s awful because I knew I wasn’t in it. The amount of times people would be like, ‘Are you in Spider-Man?’ I just knew they would walk away with this big grin on their face, and their hearts were gonna break.”
What Charlie Cox Said About His Avengers Future
The MCM Comic Con panel gave fans a clear picture of where things stand. Cox did not leave any room for doubt about his role in Secret Wars.
He confirmed that he is not part of the film and even referenced his previous denials about Spider-Man: Brand New Day to prove he was telling the truth this time as well.
Earlier this year, Cox appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and was asked about Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for a December 2026 release. His answer then was similar.
“I don’t think so. No… as far as I know, I’m not in the Avengers.”
Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production, with reshoots happening this year. The cast includes names like Chris Evans and Florence Pugh, but Cox’s name has not been part of any announcements. Kevin Feige has said that the full roster for Doomsday has not been revealed yet, but Cox seems certain he is not involved.
Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to begin filming in mid-2026. Despite months of rumors and speculation, Cox has now made his position clear.
Why Fans Thought Daredevil Would Join the Avengers
The speculation did not come out of nowhere. Cox first played Matt Murdock in Netflix’s Daredevil series eleven years ago. The show was popular and earned a strong following. When it was cancelled, fans were disappointed.
Everything changed when Cox appeared as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That brief appearance made Daredevil part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially. The revival series Daredevil: Born Again brought the character back to the spotlight.
These developments made fans believe that Daredevil was moving closer to joining the Avengers. The character has a rich history in the comics as a member of the team, so the idea made sense.
There were also rumors from scoopers like Daniel Richtman, who said back in December 2025 that Daredevil would appear in Secret Wars. A training post from Cox in May 2026 also looked like confirmation for some fans.
But none of it turned out to be true.
Daredevil Will Continue in Born Again Season 3
Even though Cox is not joining the Avengers movies, his time as Daredevil is far from over. He will continue the story in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, which is expected to arrive in early 2027.
The new season will have Matt Murdock behind bars after he publicly revealed his secret identity. Wilson Fisk is set to exploit his power, and the cast will expand to include characters like Luke Cage, Elektra, and Iron Fist.
Cox also shared an interesting detail about a deleted scene from Born Again season 1.
“There’s a scene in the first season of Born Again where there’s a dinner party and I come home to the apartment, and there’s a song playing, and I start singing and dancing.”
The scene was cut from the final version. Reports have suggested that the original version of Born Again was retooled to move away from a lighter approach and back toward the tone of the Netflix series.
Fans React to the News
The reaction from fans has been mixed. Some are disappointed that Daredevil will not appear in Secret Wars. Others believe Cox might be hiding the truth, just like Andrew Garfield did when he denied being in No Way Home.
But Cox has been honest about his involvement in movies before. He said he was not in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and that turned out to be correct. This time, he is asking fans to believe him again.
One fan even suggested that Ben Affleck could return as Daredevil instead, especially after Jennifer Garner appeared as Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine. But that idea remains just speculation.

What This Means for the MCU
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is building toward two major Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday will release in December 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will follow. Both movies are expected to feature large casts of heroes.
Cox’s denial does not mean Daredevil will never appear in an Avengers movie. It just means he will not be in these two films. The character has a strong presence in the comics and a dedicated fan base. His time in the MCU is likely not over.
For now, fans can look forward to Born Again Season 3 in 2027. The show will continue the story of Matt Murdock and his fight for justice in Hell’s Kitchen. Cox remains committed to the role, even if he is not assembling with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
