Almost two months after its theatrical debut, the romantic drama Cocktail 2 is finally making its way to streaming. The film, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, received mixed reviews from critics but still managed to become a box-office success. Starting August 14, viewers can watch the film on Netflix from the comfort of their homes.

Cocktail 2 will begin streaming on Netflix starting Friday, August 14, 2026. The streaming platform confirmed the release with a social media post that read, “Two’s a couple, and three’s a Cocktail You’ve got a date Watch Cocktail 2, out 14 August on Netflix”. The film is expected to be available from 12:30 p.m. Indian Standard Time.
The movie is a spiritual successor to the 2012 hit Cocktail, which starred Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and Diana Penty. While the original film explored friendship and complicated relationships, this new version brings a fresh set of characters while keeping the romantic-comedy feel that made the first film popular.
What Is Cocktail 2 About
Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 follows Kunal (Shahid Kapoor) and Diya (Rashmika Mandanna), a couple who have been in a committed live-in relationship for nearly ten years. They face growing pressure from their families and society to get married. To escape this, they decide to take a holiday in Sicily, Italy.
Their vacation takes an unexpected turn when they meet Ally (Kriti Sanon), Diya’s glamorous and free-spirited old friend. Worried about Kunal’s commitment, Diya asks Ally to flirt with him as a “loyalty test.” But the plan backfires when Kunal and Ally develop real feelings for each other. What starts as a simple test soon turns into jealousy, heartbreak, and difficult choices about love and friendship.
The film also features a supporting cast that includes Tiku Talsania, Kannan Arunachalam, Suparna Marwah, Neelu Kohli, and Deepak Kalra. It is written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films.
Box Office Performance Despite Mixed Reviews
Cocktail 2 hit theatres on June 19, 2026. The film opened to largely negative reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, only 23% of the reviews were positive, with a weighted rating of 5 out of 10. Critics pointed out the film’s lack of depth, slow pace, and insufficient layers in the female characters. One review noted, “This spiritual successor has the gloss, the glamour, but not the emotional punch. Some drinks are best served once”.
Despite the criticism, the film performed well at the box office. It opened at ₹13 crore net in India and collected ₹47 crore domestically in its opening weekend. The film went on to cross ₹100 crore domestically, with an additional $3.7 million from overseas markets. By the end of its theatrical run, Cocktail 2 had earned ₹147 crore worldwide.
According to other reports, the film’s worldwide gross reached around ₹166 crore. It became the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2026. For Shahid Kapoor, this marked his third-highest grosser after Padmaavat and Kabir Singh.
Audience Reactions on Social Media
When the film released in theatres, social media was flooded with mixed reactions. Some viewers praised the film’s visuals and the performances of the lead actors. Others were disappointed, feeling that the sequel did not live up to the expectations set by the original.
One user wrote, “Not as iconic as Cocktail 1, but Cocktail 2 is still a fun and entertaining watch”. Another called it “all gloss, no substance”. Several viewers appreciated Shahid Kapoor’s performance and his on-screen chemistry with both leading ladies. The film’s music, composed by Pritam, with songs like Jab Talak, Mashooqa, and Tujhko, became popular before the theatrical release.
Kriti Sanon’s Emotional Note
On the film’s release day, Kriti Sanon shared an emotional note expressing her gratitude to the team. She wrote, “Need all the love and hugs because Fin-Ally its Cocktail 2 Day!! Ally, Kunal and Diya are yours. I hope you love them, feel their hearts and cherish them as much as we have!!”
She also thanked her co-stars, saying, “Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, I’m already missing you guys. Thank you for making this journey so beautiful & giving me the best memories for life!!”
