David Hackl, the director known for Saw V, is taking on a new project. He will direct an action thriller called Solar Storm. The movie comes from Pelican Pictures. Jack Hudson and Lorena Andrea will play the lead roles.
What ‘Solar Storm’ Is About
The story takes place over one very bad day. A huge solar storm hits Earth. It knocks out power and communication across an entire city. Without electricity, things quickly fall apart. Looting and riots break out in the streets.
Jack Hudson plays Joe. Joe is an ex-convict trying to leave his criminal past behind. Lorena Andrea plays Jasmine. Jasmine is a woman who wants to escape from a bad marriage. Their paths cross during the blackout. They end up running together through 24 hours of darkness. People are hunting them. These hunters might be more dangerous than the storm itself.
The movie is described as a neo-noir action thriller. Writer Joe Rabl explains his vision for the film.
“I wrote Solar Storm as a pure pressure cooker. One day. No power. No rules. Two people who need each other to survive. The storm outside is nothing compared to what’s happening inside these characters.”
Jack Hudson also shared his thoughts about the character he plays.
“Joe is a man who’s done everything to leave his past behind, only to have the world itself collapse around him. The solar storm doesn’t just take the lights out — it strips people down to who they really are. David knows how to make that kind of tension relentless and cinematic. That’s the movie I wanted to make.”
The Cast and Crew
Jack Hudson is not just starring in the movie. He is also producing it. Hudson is known for his work in The Devil’s Train.
Lorena Andrea stars opposite him. She is known for her role as Sister Lilith in the Netflix series Warrior Nun. Andrea was born in London to Spanish and Colombian parents. She speaks both English and Spanish fluently.
The supporting cast includes several familiar faces.

Joe Rabl wrote the screenplay. He is also producing the film through his company, Pelican Pictures. Rabl is an actor, producer, and writer from Graz, Austria.
Other producers include Walter Mair of Trigger Films. Mair will also compose the movie’s score. Reinhard Besser serves as an executive producer.
The crew behind the camera includes experienced professionals.

Production Details
Principal photography for Solar Storm will begin in winter 2026. The filming will take place in Bulgaria. The movie has a budget of about €15 million.
Trigger Films is handling the financing. They are providing the U.K. tax credit and GAP financing.
The movie does not have a distributor or release date yet. Production is still in the early stages. The one-day structure of the story gives it a natural sense of urgency. Characters cannot wait for things to get better. Every choice they make changes their situation quickly.
The neo-noir label suggests the movie will focus on more than just survival. It points to morally complicated situations. Characters will have to make tough decisions with limited information.
