The eighth episode of The World’s Strongest Rearguard: Labyrinth Country’s Novice Seeker, titled “The Town in Chaos,” aired on August 23, 2026. This episode throws Arihito Atobe and his party into their biggest challenge yet. A monster stampede floods the streets, forcing the team to protect the townspeople. The episode also explores the true meaning of being a “Rearguard.”
Monster Stampede Hits the Town
The episode begins with a crisis. The labyrinth has expelled a massive number of monsters. This event is called a Stampede. The labyrinth does this to control its own environment when monsters overpopulate inside. The town is now under direct attack.
Guild official Luisa admits the situation is her fault. The guild failed to manage monster numbers in one labyrinth. Their delay in sending out enough hunters caused the labyrinth to purge all the monsters at once. The town’s defenses are stretched thin. Guards are busy elsewhere and cannot help.
Arihito Creates Shelters Instead of Attacking
Arihito does not rush into battle. His first action shows his true strength as a leader. He asks Suzuna to use her barrier skills. Instead of fighting, he uses the barriers to create safe shelters for the civilians. He turns buildings into protected zones where people can hide.
This decision is smart. The Rearguard class is about support and protection, not just fighting. Arihito understands that saving lives is more important than defeating monsters. This moment clearly shows what the “Rearguard” truly represents.
The Party Splits Up to Defend the Town
Arihito organizes the team into different roles to cover the whole town.
- Suzuna creates barriers and safe zones.
- Misaki guards Suzuna while she works.
- Elitia and Igarashi hold the front lines against the monsters.
- Theresia acts as a游击 unit, attacking from different angles.
Arihito stays at the rear. He coordinates everything and provides support from the back. He treats the whole town like one big party, with himself as the support leader.
The Demiharpy and the Named Monster
The monsters include a dangerous creature called the Demiharpy. This monster uses a special skill called the “Sleeping Song“. This ability makes it very dangerous. A single song could put the defenders to sleep.
The situation gets worse. A powerful “Named” monster also appears. Named monsters are much stronger than normal ones. This creates even more pressure on Arihito’s team.
The Rearguard’s Limitation
The episode shows a key weakness of the Rearguard class. Arihito cannot attack until his allies are attacked first. His support skills only work when his teammates are in combat. This is a major limitation.
He does not land the final blow on any Named monster in this episode. Instead, he supports other hunters who finish the fight. This shows that the Rearguard is a support class. His job is to make others stronger, not to be the star of the fight.
The Aftermath and a New Character
After the battle, the town starts to recover. A new character appears. He is a merchant who could not explore the labyrinth himself. He sold weapons cheaply to beginners. He joins the group after the fight. This shows that even ordinary people can find a place in this world.

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka voices Arihito Atobe. The cast also includes Aoi Koga as Theresia, Yui Ishikawa as Elitia, and Saori Hayami as Suzuna.
Yuji Yanase directs the anime at Maho Film. Deko Akao handles the series scripts. Eriko Yanagimoto is the main character designer.
The opening theme song is “license” by Redhair Rosy. The ending theme song is “Owaranai Yoru no Mamori-kata (How to Protect the Endless Night)” by Inner Journey.
