Abhishek Banerjee, known for his roles in Stree, Mirzapur, and Paatal Lok, has officially stepped down from Casting Bay, the casting company he co-founded in 2017. The actor announced his decision on social media on August 24, 2026, marking the end of a decade-long journey balancing acting and casting duties.

The decision comes as Banerjee aims to focus entirely on his acting career and avoid any conflict of interest between his two professional identities. His co-founder, Anmol Ahuja, will continue to lead the company.

Why Abhishek Banerjee Decided to Leave Casting Bay

Banerjee described the decision to step away from Casting Bay as “difficult”. The actor, who has been managing both acting and casting for around ten years, felt he could no longer give the company his full attention due to his busy shooting schedules.

“I thought if I am not able to give hundred percent in something, then what’s the whole point of doing it? It’s better to let the youngsters take over and let them do the job.”

Banerjee also emphasized that casting is a job he believes cannot be done remotely. With his acting commitments growing, he found it increasingly difficult to be physically present in casting rooms, which he considers essential for the job.

Conflict of Interest Concerns

A major reason behind Banerjee’s exit was the growing concern about conflict of interest between his work as an actor and as a casting director. He told HT City that questions about this conflict have been raised since he became an actor.

“Because I am an actor and then a casting director. These questions have been raised since I became an actor.”

While Banerjee pointed out that there were “hardly any projects” where his acting and casting duties overlapped, he felt it was better to remove any ambiguity.

“But still I felt that let’s avoid the conflict of interest.”

This separation allows him to focus on his acting career without any questions about fairness or bias in the casting process.

What Abhishek Banerjee Said About His Decision

In his social media post, Banerjee shared a reflective note about his journey with Casting Bay.

“Sometimes moving forward doesn’t mean leaving something behind.”

He explained that Casting Bay was created by two friends with a shared vision and love for the craft. Over time, as their professional journeys evolved, their paths naturally took different directions.

“Abhishek has now retired from Casting Bay and continues with his acting career and other professional pursuits.”

Banerjee made it clear that leaving Casting Bay does not mean abandoning casting altogether. He mentioned that he might plan something in the future, but not as a casting director. Instead, he wants to help make the profession “a more organized platform, a more democratic platform” and remain available to the casting fraternity.
