Paramount+ has set October 30, 2026 as the premiere date for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. The show returns just in time for Halloween and also marks the 20th anniversary of the Dexter franchise. Alongside the date announcement, the streaming service dropped the first teaser trailer. The new season brings back Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, but this time he faces more than just killers — he is dealing with aging, a midlife crisis, and his son Harrison now working as a New York City police officer.
New Killers Join the Cast
Season 2 introduces multiple serial killers for Dexter to deal with. Brian Cox (Succession) plays Don Framt, also known as the New York Ripper. This character has decades of killings behind him and is described as a notorious figure. Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, The Guest) plays Lucas Stark, the Five Borough Killer. His character kills in each borough of New York City and taunts police with phone calls.
Gabriel Luna (The Last of Us) joins as Ray Ballard, the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger. Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo) also joins the cast as Captain Mixon. These new additions bring fresh threats to Dexter’s world in New York City.
Time Jump Puts Harrison in the NYPD
The new season picks up three years after Season 1. Showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed the time jump was necessary so that Dexter’s son Harrison, played by Jack Alcott, could turn 21 and join the NYPD as a police officer. This creates a major problem for Dexter, who must hide his activities from his own son.
“One of our themes is midlife crisis. Dexter’s dealing with middle age as best he can. He’ll get a pair of glasses, because he can’t read his iPhone. But he still does what he does best.”
— Clyde Phillips, showrunner
Harrison’s new job puts him directly in the path of the same killers Dexter is tracking. Detective Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) assigns Harrison and his partner Fiona Mixon (Nona Parker Johnson) to investigate the New York Ripper. A photo from the new season shows Harrison carrying a box of donuts, a callback to the original series where Dexter would do the same thing at Miami Metro.
Dexter Deals with Getting Older
Beyond the killers, Season 2 explores Dexter facing middle age. The teaser trailer shows Dexter getting an eye exam and trying on glasses. Phillips explained that Dexter has always wanted recognition, and watching the Five Borough Killer get attention drives him crazy.
“In his own weird midlife crisis way, one of the things that Dexter has always wanted is recognition. … By the time the Five Borough Killer has killed one person, he already has the city in his grip. And that drives Dexter f—ing crazy, because nobody knows who he is.”
— Clyde Phillips
